With a chuckle, Brooks slapped Cooper on the back. “You’ve known Stryker longer than I have. He’s the bad cop so, you and I have to be the good ones.”

“You got that right,” Cooper replied. “I’ll be in touch with you early next week. If you find out that any of the other pods were breached —”

“I just got confirmation no other pods were broken into,” Brooks explained. “So, you think the investigation’ll run a few months?”

“I’m hoping a few weeks,” Cooper answered.

“I’m taking off,” Stryker said. “Brooks, you good?”

“I got this,” Brooks replied.

“Thank you,” Stryker said.

“Oh, sure, with Brooks you’ve got good manners,” Cooper ground out.

Stryker laughed as he and Cooper walked outside. The bright sun had them fishing out their shades.

“What’s the word on your promotion?” Stryker asked.

“I’m hearing rumors I’m moving west.”

“Got other options?”

“No.”

“You want another option?”

Cooper regarded him for an extra beat. “What are you thinking?”

“Something you might love.”

“I’d love a beautiful blonde, a sunny day, and a yacht,” Cooper said.

“You’ve got a boat.”

“I want a bigger one.”

“Emerson’s friend, Danielle, you met her at Raphael’s—”

“I remember her. She was hot.”

“She asked about you.”

“Nice.” Cooper’s smile fell away. “Won’t matter if I move across the country.”

“You might not have to,” Stryker replied.

“Seriously? What’s going on?”

“Give me a coupla days. I’ve gotta talk to someone. By the way, where’s he serving?” Stryker asked.

“Who?”

“Spinetti.”

“Oh, no, don’t even think about it.”

“Tell me, don’t tell me. I’ll find out.”
