There it is again.

That feeling.

The one I've been avoiding.

The one I've been pretending is just attraction.

Just curiosity.

Just fake dating.

Except, standing here looking at her, I know better.

Because when Mary smiles at me, the rest of the world disappears.

And for the first time in a long time, I don't want the night to end.

“Come inside,” she whispers and licks her kiss swollen lips.

Christ, this woman doesn’t know what she’s doing to me.

The porch light glows above us.

The key still hangs forgotten in her hand.

Mary

I am absolutely losing my mind.

That's the only explanation.

Because somehow I've invited Kai Montego into my house.

My house.

The same house where my mother still leaves me grocery lists on the refrigerator.

The same house where I've lived most of my life.

The same house where I've spent years being sensible.

Responsible.

Predictable.

And now there's a six-foot-something bodyguard standing on my front porch looking at me like I'm the most interesting woman in New Jersey.

It should be illegal.

“Mary?”
