“And I want you to marry me.”

Her hand flies to her mouth.

“I want you to live with me.”

Another tear.

“I want you beside me when I'm eighty and yelling at kids to get off my lawn.”

That makes her laugh.

“I want Sunday coffee and Christmases and family dinners and all the boring stuff.”

I swallow hard.

“I want everything.”

“Do you really mean it?”

The question breaks my heart.

Because she still doesn't know.

Still doesn't understand.

“No one's here but you and me, Firecracker.”

I open the box.

The diamond catches the light.

“I mean every damn word.”

Silence.

Beautiful silence.

Then—she answers.

“Yes.”

I blink.

“What?”

She laughs through her tears.

“Yes, Kai.”

More tears.

“Yes.”

She drops to her knees with me.

Throws herself into my arms.

And suddenly she's crying and laughing and kissing me all at once.
