“No, No!! This can’t be happening; this will NOT happen. Darius!”
Alas, Darius was slumped over after sending me his energy which was still coursing through my body but bound and locked up tightly. Serena’s spell still kept me floating. I needed to save Jackson, I had to save him! He was my person, my family, and no witch or vampire bitch was going to take him from me.
Closing my eyes, I searched through my body, begging for some source of magic, some clue as to how to break this spell. Jackson’s words echoing in my mind, every spell has a weak spot, a way of breaking it. And as I examined my body, my mind, my soul, I found it.
A small crack in the wall of my mind. Sticking my fingers in the crack, I began to pull it apart, making the crack wider and wider and as I did, I felt my body landing heavily back on the ground, a loud thudding noise rang across the chambers as if something much larger than myself fell.
“Impossible.” Serena turned away from Jackson to stare at me now with my distraction.
“I told you I will kill you if you touch him.”
Standing up I felt not only Darius’ power and strength, but also what little part Jackson could lend me. I looked around the chamber while taking a fighting stance. The vampires and werewolves had surrounded me, but I was picking in my head which one I was going to take out first.
As they attacked, I was also attacked by Serena’s magic, blasting me every chance she got, and although I managed to deflect some of them, I felt a few hits here and there which, if in normal circumstances, would have knocked me out.
Punching and kicking at the werewolves that came towards me, the chains were my only weapons, and I knew I needed to find something pointy and made out of wood if I were to destroy these vamps. Highly doubtful anything like that lived in a vampire house, but I would make do.
Once I had managed to subdue some of the werewolves, no doubt that more would follow, I advanced towards Serena and Angelique. I had to destroy them if I were to get us all out of here safely.
Serena stood at the end waiting for me, as if she was welcoming my attack. She said I had to trust her, that she was the only one who could get us out of here and yet I just watched her kill my friend.
“Hayley, stop.”
Her voice rang through my mind, and I ignored it, racing towards her, pushing off any vampire that tried to get in my way.
“I am trying to help you.”
“You are trying to kill me.”
“Would you stop and listen! I have to do this.”
“You will do nothing.”
Finally, I reached her, and my fist flew towards her face, catching her on the chin and knocking her backwards and into Angelique’s throne. Angelique growled a feral noise at me as she pushed Serena off her lap and stood ready and waiting for me.
I attacked without question, throwing punches and aiming for her face, shoulders, stomach, anything I could hit, and she darted quickly, each and every attack missed her. She was fast, a little too fast.
“You stupid girl.”
She spat at me as she came up behind me and sent me flying over her throne.
“You will never defeat me. Your pitiful family and ‘team’ thought they could and look what happened to them.”
Suddenly, she pulled me up and bit down hard into my neck. I shouted in the sudden pain, and she let go and laughed. Standing above me, as her heel dug into my chest, she licked the remnants of my blood from her lips. Trying to push her off felt useless as I could feel my energy was draining.
“Hayley, if you don’t stop, I can’t complete the spell.”
“FUCK OFF!”
“You have to trust me.”
“I SAID FUCK OFF!”
“I can make her human!”
"You can what?!"I shouted back towards Serena who used the throne as a support, pushing herself up. She went back to Jackson then, lifting the dagger up as I watched in horror, but she didn’t do the same as she did to Eric.
No, instead she cut across his wrist, the same as Jacqueline, and let a few drops fall into the goblet. She caught me watching her as Angelique smiled down at me, her heel imbedding itself into my chest a little.
