He fell silent once more and the tension in the air could be cut with a knife. Having sex was the last thing on my mind, and I’m sure it wasn’t the first thing Darius thought of either. Part of me wished we never left his apartment now, and continued where we left off but alas now, we were here. The universe was just kicking me in the ass.

He stood up and came towards me, switching on another table lamp I hadn’t noticed or paid any attention to. Exposing the room even more, and had I been looking or caring about where we were, I would have noticed the gothic décor.

The four-poster bed draped in velvet red curtains or the plush black carpet that covered the floor. The woodwork of each piece of furniture, a dark mahogany, Jackson would kill for a room like this.

“No offence Hayley, as much as I have joked and we have allowed ourselves to get carried away, I don’t think sleeping together right now would be the correct thing to do.”

“You won’t be getting me naked at any given time.”

I huffed, turning away from him, and bringing my knees up to my chest, I had no idea how we were going to get out of this. I may be strong, stronger than most, but Angelique pretty much had a whole army outside these doors, and I didn’t know how strong Serena was, or if she had spelled us into this room.

“What shall we do?” Darius asked, pouring himself a glass of water from the water jug we had been provided.

“Fuck knows, you come up with an idea.”

Sitting in the seat next to me, he let out a sigh and I felt it, he was just as confused and frustrated as I felt. Or were they even my feelings? Were they a mix of his? I didn’t want or need to bond with anyone, especially not Darius.

He annoyed me, angered me. His very being shouldn’t be, and that killer in me continued to demand I destroy him and yet, he sat only a few feet from me, and I couldn’t help but memorise all the lines on his face.

Watching as he brought the glass to his lips, and wished I could taste those same lips again. This had to be the bonding bullshit causing these feelings, that had to be it.

Lowering my eyes as he caught my gaze, a small smile emerged on his lips. Can he sense the same things I’m feeling? I wish we had a manual or a guide to all things soulmates or at least something that gave us an idea of what the hell it was.

“What’s Serena like?”

“Gorgeous. Powerful, and clearly has Angelique chasing her tail.”

“What does she look like?”

“You can see her tomorrow, but you have her hair and her eyes. She healed you earlier after you passed out. She wasn’t too impressed with Angelique, or that my mother had harmed you, so she threw her across the room.”

“Have you slept?”

“I can’t – I mean, I won’t sleep.”

Finishing his drink, he got up and began fishing through the small vanity table, and then into a sideboard, and after a few moments of watching him shuffle things around, he came back and placed a decanter and two glasses down on the side table in between both our chairs.

Lifting the crystal stopper from the top, he took a whiff of whatever the clear liquid was, shrugged his shoulders, and then poured a large shot in both glasses.

“We both could use a drink, so bottoms up.”

“What is it?” I asked bringing the glass to my lips.

“White rum I think, but fuck it, let's drink."

After the shot, the liquid burnt the back of my throat, and it took me a second to deal with the sudden warmth of my body. I was more of a vodka drinker, so this was new.

Popping the glass back down, Darius was quick to fill both of them up again, and by the fifth shot, I felt a sense of calm ease my muscles and was grateful he had gone looking.

“Not how I expected us to spend a night together.” He said, sipping at his glass.

“You know, I half expected you to sneak into my shower that night.”

“I did think about it, but I knew you’d rip my cock off.”

“Depends on what it looks like.”

“What it looks like?! What does that mean?”
