Shaking my head almost to remove the trail of thoughts, I swung and hit his right pad, and then the left. Right, left, left, right, right, and then bringing my leg up seamlessly, I hit his left pad hard. And he stumbled backwards.
“Again.” He demanded.
And, so we did. Again and again for quite a while, neither of us even breaking a sweat, and I could see he was calculating every single one of my moves, until he knew which one, I would take next. Eventually, we were in sync.
“You don’t even tire, do you?” He asked me as he held his hands up to call the sparing to a stop.
“Not really, I guess it’s this so-called calling that causes it.”
“Is it just stamina you have? Well, that and strength.”
Turning around, I headed to the water cooler and poured myself a drink, my mouth dry but my body itched for more training.
“I heal faster than normal humans, and speed wise, I’m pretty fast, but not as fast as your average vampire.”
“Any weaknesses?”
I narrowed my eyes at him as he put the gloves and pads away, taking out two sparing poles then and holding one out to me.
“Everyone has a weakness, but I don’t let the enemy know mine.”
“Enemy now, am I?” His coy smile looked at me, eagerly awaiting me to bite back.
“I still have yet to decide what you are.”
“Oh, and here I thought you were warming up to me. I guess I need to work harder.”
He swung his sparing pole towards me, taking me completely off guard, and as I dropped down and rolled towards my own pole, he turned on his heel and his pole hit the ground, just seconds from where I just was.
Now this was the training I enjoyed the most, I felt my heart begin to race as I took hold of the pole and turned around catching Darius on the back of his ankles, flipping him over and watching as he landed on his back.
“Touché.”
Before I could become smug of my quick reflexes and moves, Darius lifted his hand, and a flash of black light shot out, hitting me square in the chest and sending me a few feet across the room, and into the metal cabinet. The cabinet opened up, and items started to fall on me.
That was unexpected, and something I didn’t see coming, but I should have known better. He was a hybrid mix of a vampire and a witch. He had lethal skills from both creatures, and I should have prepared for anything.
“Well, that was a dick move.”
Taking hold of my pole, I lifted myself up and at lightning speed, I joined him back in the middle of the room and brought the pole up, hitting him again and again. Irritation filled my body as he blocked every single one of my attacks. He was good, and almost an equal match. I wasn’t about to lose.
“I can hear your heartbeat.”
He came close to my face as he pressed his pole against mine, leaning closer into me as I pushed him back. He was just trying to throw me off my game, and it wasn’t going to happen.
“Does it beat faster because of how close we are?”
He winked and took another swing at me. Blocking his attack, I returned with a swing of my pole, and then a kick knocking him to the ground once again, before coming up on top of him, holding the end of the pole to his throat.
My heart was racing with the mixture of confusing feelings I already had, my obvious attraction to him, and the energy I was using to just get to this point.
“If you wanted to get on top of me Miss Helsing, all you had to do was ask.”
His eyes flashed a darker shade of blue as I released the pressure of the pole, and as I went to stand, he grabbed me by my hips and flipped me over, our positions reversed.
“Or would you like it if I were on top of you?”
His nose brushed past mine as I felt his warm breath against my skin, and for a moment I wanted to answer him the way my body wanted, but my mind, the one who kept my head out of the clouds, shouted at me to kick his ass. My instincts demanding, I rip his head off.
