“You really think so highly of yourself, don’t you? That you are so important to this city that you can talk down to people or accuse them of things they have nothing to do with.” His tone wasn’t as flirty as it had been, and I could have sworn his blue eyes turned a little dark.

“I am someone who has watched you, sat in the shadows and aided you more than you know.”

“You sound like a stalker.”

“Could you just - God! You really think that everyone is your enemy, you are so blinded that you cannot even see when someone is trying to help you.”

“What if I don’t want your help?” I spat back.

“I never said you wanted it, but you are going to need it.”

He stood suddenly before I could answer back with something snarky and took his glass back to the bar. For a minute or two I sat there, wondering what game he was playing and why I was clearly falling into his trap.

I felt this small pull, like a string being dangled in front of a cat as he stood with his back to me. My heart started to pound in my ears as I desperately tried to fight from leaving my seat and going after him. I had to get out of here before I did something stupid.

Slamming my empty glass down on the table, I headed for the door trying to keep my eyes from searching for him, and as I reached for the handle, I felt the tingling I always felt as a vampire passed me.

“Excuse us, are you leaving or what?”

The girls. Turning around, the group of male vamps had their arms draped around each one of the girls, at least six of them, and if it wasn’t for the fact that prying eyes were watching me, I’d have staked each and every vampire in the club right then and there.

Breathing in and calming myself, I stepped out of the way, allowing them to pass me but they wouldn’t get far, I’d have them all outside.

* * *

The cold airhit me instantly as I followed the group out. An alleyway, of course that’s where they would take their victims. Typical of vampires, they were getting predictable, and for once I would like them to do something out of this world and give me a challenge.

Taking one of the stakes out of my pockets, I held it up ready and armed as I turned the corner to the alley and there, they were waiting for me, the girls were nowhere to be seen.

“We knew you’d follow.”

One of the vampires, a taller more muscular one said as he stepped into my view.

“Oh goodie, a challenge. Finally.”

It was as if they read my mind as three more of the male vamps came up behind me, surrounding me and I felt my heart quicken from excitement. I needed a good fight, and this was going to be a great one, especially if they knew how to throw a punch or two.

“You’re in for it now, huntress.”

“Huntress? Oh, I like that.”

Rolling my eyes as I heard his clapping, turning around Darius leaned against a streetlamp watching us, and I grit my teeth. He was becoming more and more irritating than I’d like to admit.

“This fight doesn’t involve you.” The tall vampire said, “This is vamp business.” He was almost too familiar with Darius, and it drew me to question more.

“You two sound like you know each other.” My eyes widened as I realised, I spoke my thoughts out loud.

“He’s…”

Darius threw a stake then, and it impaled the tall vamp, turning him into dust before he could answer. All hell broke loose as I felt myself being pulled back and piled on by two or three vampires as Darius took on another two.

“Fuck’s sake.”

Kicking one of the vamps off me and shoving my stake into another, I pushed myself off the floor and took out the third one, turning him into dust in seconds. The kicked one came rushing towards me, and I punched him in the stomach, spinning round then on my heel and kicked him again in the head.

He went down onto one knee as he held his head, and I jabbed him with my stake in his back and out of this world he went.

Looking over to Darius as the two he was fighting appeared to be winning, I sighed wondering if I should even bother helping him or if they were doing me a favour by taking him out.
