I drop my hands at my sides and take two giant steps back from the phone. “One last look. What do we think?”
“I think you look like a hot rock princess.” Dominique fans herself with her hand. “Those fishnets with the combat boots look badass.”
A smile creeps onto my face. “I haven’t been to a concert in so long.”
“I’m really glad you’re allowing yourself to have some fun, Pres. Happiness looks good on you.”
Warmth spreads through my chest. “Thanks. Okay, let me go. I’ll call you tomorrow.”
“You better.”
We end the call, and I stare at my reflection in the mirror for one more lingering moment. I’m only twenty-six, but I feel a lot older. The last four years taking care of my niece and nephew have been a lot for me, and I haven’t allowed myself to enjoy my twenties as much as everyone else usually does.
But tonight, in my tied-up Breaking Benjamin T-shirt and black leather mini-skirt, I feel like I’m getting a piece of myself back. The kids are at their friends’ houses for a sleepover, and I’m going out on a date with my boyfriends.
I glance at the picture of my sister sitting on my dresser, and I press a kiss to my fingertips before touching it to the frame. “Love you, sis’.”
The doorbell rings and pulls me from my thoughts. I snatch my clutch off the bed and head downstairs.
Stephen and Chance are both waiting on the porch when I swing open the door, each holding a bouquet of red roses.
Stephen wastes no time in lunging for me, and I squeal as he lifts and spins me. “You look fucking hot!”
I laugh as he sets me down and steadies me. “You look hot yourself.”
His muscles pop in his fitted white T-shirt, brightening those crystal-blue eyes of his. I drink my fill of him, my gaze trailing down his biceps and along his forearms, smattered with freckles.
I gasp as I spot the black leather bracelet wrapped around his wrist. “Oh my God, is that...?”
“Of course it is.” He holds it up proudly, gesturing to the three silver circles at the center. “I figured our first official date was the perfect time to break it out.”
“You saved it after all this time?”
“You were always with me, even when you weren’t.”
My eyes shift to Chance, and linger on the matching bracelet on his wrist. “You too?”
He nods once. “Always.”
I wrap my arms around his waist, breathing in his familiar scent. “You look sexy, my Grumpy Man.”
The sleeves of his black dress shirt are rolled up, putting his vascular forearms on display. The top two buttons are undone, revealing his smooth olive skin. His messy dark hair falls over his obsidian eyes.
They look so different, my men. Opposites in every way, yet their contrasting traits complement each other so well. They are the perfect balance.
And I get to have them both.
“I’ll be right back.” I spin around and dart back upstairs, making a beeline for my bedroom. I rummage through my jewelry box, and pull out the necklace Stephen gave me years ago, and run back downstairs.
“Put it on for me, please?” I hand it to Stephen and turn around in front of him.
He leans down and presses his soft lips to the side of my neck, and goosebumps trail along my skin. He clasps the necklace, and I smile wide as my fingertips come up to touch the silver circles.
The three of us are back together.
Maybe this really could be forever.
“I can’t believe these seats!”
