Chapter Ten

Angel

“Dumbass.” I hit him on the shoulder, still staring at his bleeding leg.

“Get used to it, little girl. You signed up for this. I’m going to do a bunch of other shit to get hurt, and bleed. Lucky for me I’m in love with a nurse.”

My eyes flew to his. He looked at me funny when I didn’t respond.

“Don’t tell me you’re backing out now? I let your dad beat the shit out of me, and I made sure that the streets were clean for little demons. You can’t be mad because I busted some stitches open.”

“Come with me.” I grabbed his hand. “Rukus you got things under control?”

“Yes, you stitched up everyone who needed it. We can take care of the other stuff.”

I nodded, blowing a kiss to my dad as I led Demon up the stairs to his apartment.

“I’m sorry, Angel,” Demon pleaded with me when I slammed the door shut.

“Shut up.” I pulled his head down, and slammed my lips to his.

Just as I expected him to do, Demon took over the kiss as soon as our lips met. His mouth moved over mine hard, fast, and crazed.

“I’m going to have to get beat up more often if this is how I get treated.”

I pushed him back against the wall. “I’m not kissing you because you’re bleeding dumbass. I’m kissing you because you said you loved me.”

It was his turn to stare at me without saying anything. I got nervous, fiddling with the bottom of my shirt. This was Demon. I don’t think he’d ever told a woman he loved them. He was more of a screw them until they couldn’t walk, and sent them on their way with a smile kind of guy.

“No shit, I love you. I wouldn’t have told you to break it off with pickle-dick if I didn’t love you.” He grabbed my left hand making sure it was empty.

“I did break up with Blake.”

“Pickle-dick.”

I laughed, shaking my head. “Be nice. I just broke his heart. He cried.”

“Of course, he cried. He lost you. Although if we’re honest he never had you in the first place.”

“How can you say that? I was engaged to him.”

“I can say that.” He grabbed my other hand stopping me from fidgeting. “Because even though you let him put a ring on your finger you still saved yourself for me. And you’re still wearing the necklace I bought you all those years ago.”

I scoffed, pulling my hand out of his. “I didn’t save myself for you.”

“Yes, you did.” He picked me up. I put my legs around his waist and kissed him deeply. We ended up on the couch. “And it’s a good thing because I’d have to kill any mother fucker that touched what’s mine.”

“Does that mean I have to kill all those other girls?”

“There were no other girls.”

“That’s not what this says.” I pointed to my bandaged arm.

Demon’s eyes went hard as he caressed the gauze. “She was there tonight. She talked about hurting you. I’ve never wanted to lay my hands on a woman before.”

“What happened tonight?”

“Go get my kit so you can fix me up, and I’ll tell you what your old man was up to.”
