“Yeah.”

After I filled two glasses, I handed one over and downed some of mine.

We crossed into the living room and settled on each end of the sofa. I slouched down and balanced the glass on my leg when I offered the real reason I was in the middle of trade talk. “This is about Mia Bashay.”

“What this got to do with her?”

“I won’t fuck her and she’s pissed. Her husband doesn’t like that his wife is on my dick like a fiend, so he’s trying to take that shit out on me.”

“Bruh… she fucked damn near the entire roster. What does that have to do with them wanting to trade you?”

“Karl can’t satisfy his wife and is scared that I might step up and do it for him since she’s so damn pressed.”

“That’s bullshit. You know that for sure?”

“It’s for sure bullshit, and yeah, Sov has someone in the front office who leaks stuff when it’s connected to her clients. Whoever it is gave her a heads up when she threatened to come for the entire franchise.”

He nodded. “Oh I know she’s on their asses. But why you though? Like I said, she made her way through half the team.”

“I have no clue, but I’m guessing because I shut her down and she didn’t like being told no. I have my ways. I’m damn surenot perfect but I don’t do the married woman thing. Fucking Mia would have been career suicide.”

“Hell, looks likenotfucking her is career suicide.”

I glared at my boy who shrugged. “But it’s still not making sense. Your wife doesn’t get passed around an entire team without you hearing about it. He has to know how she gets down.”

“According to her, he does. When I brought up her husband, she was quick to tell me that Karl was cool with whatever she did as long as she kept it on the low. I wasn’t fucking with a married woman on any level. Not even if she had a green light to creep on her man, so I blocked her. She kept stalking me and shit though. I think it was more about her being pissed that I wouldn’t give in. For all I know, she might be the one behind this.”

“You really think he’s pushing for a trade because you refuse to fuck his wife.”

I shrugged. “Crazier shit has happened.”

“What did Sov say? Because I know she’s not standing for any of this.”

“She said to give her a few days, but honestly, it’s all about politics and egos. I can’t do shit with that. If they want me gone, it’s happening, then I’m fucking screwed. I have to think about Rylee. I’m already moving her from one place and dragging her to another city isn’t fair.”

“Nah, it’s not, but it’s also not happening. We’re a package deal. We started as Sharks and we’re retiring as Sharks. Let Sov do her thing. She’ll get this shit right.”

“I damn sure hope so.”

He tossed back his drink. “Now can we talk about ol’ girl?”

I frowned. “What about her?”

“You fuck her yet?”

“No, and I’m not going to.”

That was what my mouth said but my dick disagreed. It had been eager for action since she got here, which had me trying hard to think of anything but Somee to keep him under control.

“Yeah you are. Now that I’ve seen her, it all makes sense why you pushed so hard to have her here.”

I got pissed with the idea of Omiri checking Somee out but understood it wasn’t anything other than an observation. He was happily married and no one could ever compete with Makari. But still…

“It’s not about that. She’s here for Rylee and I’m damn sure glad she agreed. There’s so much I haven’t even considered. Things I didn’t know that could have had me fumbling this shit.”

I tossed back my drink and brushed a hand over my head, revisiting all the things Somee shared. The understanding of what Rylee’s life was like living with Felicia, knowing it was exactly as I’d expected, made me want to find Felicia just to cuss her the fuck out. How could she seclude her own child, not giving her the ability to have a voice to communicate? Not even providing the simple shit like comfort and basic needs. I had to let that go because it made my heart cold and I didn’t want her to have room in my life, not even like that.

“You’re giving her a home, everything she needs, and I know you’re gonna show up for her. That’s really all that matters.”
