I took a step back before turning to Omiri. “I’ll text you the address where we’re staying. We can chill at Somee’s house tonight to avoid having eyes on us. I’m really not in the mood for an audience.”

“Aight. We’re about to head back to the hotel, change, and grab some food. We’ll get with you later.” I dapped my boy and walked back to the truck with Des shadowing me like he thought I was going to dip around him and clock that muthafucker again.Honestly I probably would have. I was so fucking pissed that if I got my hands on him, I would choke the life from him and not feel a thing. Not one single emotion or regret.

“We’re heading back to the house,” I told him right before I got in next to Somee.

“Your father?”She signed as soon as she had eyes on me.

I nodded and turned toward the window. I sensed Somee moving next to me before she was at my side. I lifted my arm, welcoming her into my space and she got comfortable in the spot that now belonged to her. She brushed her fingers over my knuckles and covered my hand with hers, linking our fingers. I didn’t want to talk, I just needed her close and nothing else mattered. Just like I let go of Felicia, I was letting go of my father too. My past no longer existed as long as the woman beside me was my future.

“We’re goingto have to shut this down soon. They’re drunk as hell.” I followed Omiri’s line of sight toward the living room where his wife, Somee, and her homegirl Marlee were falling all over each other trying to do some dance from social media. I had not a damn clue what any of them were doing but it was keeping me and my boy highly amused.

“They watched about a million reels to learn the dance and are still fucking it up,” I said, shaking my head.

Makari pulled up some viral song called “My Bitch Your Bitch” where friends did a dance off, trying to prove their girls were better than the next. Shit was wild because none of them was doing a damn thing like the video I pulled up trying to figure out what the hell their drunk asses were doing.

“And your girl is pretty much the only one on beat,” he said and laughed with his eyes on his wife. When Marlee said she wanted to try the dance, Somee got her portable speaker, turned the song up and placed her hand on it, playing it back to back until she learned the rhythm of the song. Then they watched the video multiple times, fumbling through the moves before they were fucking them shits up trying to emulate.

“Those four bottles of wine have them all fucked up in the game.” I smirked, turning up the beer I was nursing. With them drinking wine like water, Omiri and I were being responsible.

“Nah, Kari can’t dance for shit. The only place she has rhythm is bouncing on my dick.”

“Bruh, that’s not for me to know. That’s sis and I’m not trying to have that visual in my head.” My expression twisted.

He smirked. “You better not, because we’re boys, but lines don’t need to be crossed. That’s my baby, but shit, it is what it is. Kari can’t dance.”

I turned my attention back to them and all three fell out laughing after fucking up the moves yet again, then dropped down on the sofa damn near piled on each other before Marlee was reaching for a bottle of wine, which she clumsily filled their glasses with.

“I hope that’s the last one because this is going to end badly,” I mumbled, motioning to the living room.

Omiri shook his head, grinning. “Can’t get no worse than it already is.”

“You’re right.”

“This is wild though?” He pointed to the living room with the beer he was nursing. “I guess this means no more happy endings.”

I threw my head back and laughed. “Nah, that’s dead.”

I should have been mad that he was bringing that shit up but hell, I did it. Fucking my massage therapists wasn’t one ofmy smartest decisions considering I got three of them fired for throwing hands over who was going to take my appointments, but you only live once. I just wished it hadn’t gone viral though.

“So that’s you, one hundred percent?” he asked, turning them weird ass eyes on me. All these years and I still wasn’t used to seeing them mismatched.

“Yeah, I’m chilling.”

“Chilling or serious?”

“Both. Don’t you think it’s time?” I asked.

“If you’re ready to respect what that means, then yeah, but if you’re not, nah, keep it casual. Somee is cool people. You can’t fuck that up because you’re only gonna have one shot with her. If you’re not ready to be all net, then don’t waste her time.”

“How the fuck you a QB giving me a basketball reference?”

Omiri smirked. “I’m a multifaceted type of man.”

“Bruh, shut your multifaceted ass up.”

He chuckled. “But real shit though, she’s cool people. So if you’re not ready to step behind her properly, then be clear about what y’all doing.”

I glanced at Somee. She had a lazy smile on her face, watching Makari fuck up signs, loudly trying to tell Marlee how she would help her lock down a baller so she could move to Crescent Falls too.
