What I hadn't expected was the way he'd been staring at me all night.
At first, I thought I was imagining it. But every time I glanced his way, his eyes were already on me. Not in a shy way either, like dead ass staring, or not even trying to hide it. And when our eyes would meet, he wouldn't look away. He would just smirk, like he knew something I didn't, and take a pull from his blunt.
It was making me feel some type of way. A way that had heat pooling low in my stomach every time I felt his gaze on me.
"You good?" Rah asked, his lips close to my ear so I could hear him over the music.
"Yeah, I'm good," I said, tearing my eyes away from where Trigg was posted up across from us. "You want another drink?"
"Nah, I'm straight." I was nursing my second drink of the night, trying to pace myself.
Rah kissed my neck, and I leaned into him out of habit more than anything. Even though Me and Rah weren't official, we had been fucking around for a few months, keeping it casual, but lately he had been acting different. More possessive. More boyfriend-like. Wanting me to spend the night more often, texting me good morning, asking me to come to shit like this with him.
I didn't mind it. Rah was cool, treated me decent, and the dick was good. But I wasn't pressed about making it official or nothing. We were just vibing, seeing where it went.
But the way Trigg was looking at me that was making me question everything.
I glanced over at Yasani, who was sitting next to Yatta on the other side of the section. She actually looked good tonight. Her braids were fire, her makeup was flawless, and the black dress she was wearing hugged every curve. She wasn't smiling, but she wasn't crying either, and that was progress.
"Yo, I gotta piss," Rah said, patting my thigh. "You good right here?"
"Yeah, go ahead."
He kissed me quick and stumbled off toward the bathroom, definitely drunker than I thought. The second he was gone; I felt that magnetic force drawing my attention back to Trigg.
Our eyes met and he smiled, slow and deliberate, and tilted his head like he was asking a question. My stomach flipped. This was dangerous territory. Trigg was Rah's friend, one of his closest friends from what I could tell. Looking at him the way I was looking at him, wasn’t cool at all. And I knew this shit was borderline messy. But I honestly couldn't help myself.
"I gotta use the bathroom," I said to no one in particular, standing up and smoothing down my dress. It was a deep red bodycon that stopped mid-thigh, showing off my curves in all the right ways. I'd worn it because I knew it would turn heads, and it definitely had been all night.
I made my way out of VIP and toward the bathroom, weaving through the crowd of bodies on the dance floor. The line for the women's bathroom was long as hell, at least ten girls deep, all of them on their phones or touching up their makeup in compact mirrors.
I sighed and got in line, pulling out my own phone to distract myself.
"Damn."
The voice came from right behind me, low and smooth, close enough that I could feel the breath on my neck.
"That ass look fat as fuck in that dress."
I froze. I knew who the voice belong to; I had been hearing it all night. I turned around slowly, and sure enough, there he was.
Trigg was standing so close I could smell his cologne, I could tell he was wearing Another Thirteen by LeLabo, and it made my head swim. His eyes traveled up and down my body slowly, shamelessly, before landing on my face.
"Well excuse the fuck outta me?" I said, frowning even though my pulse was racing.
"You heard me." He leaned against the wall, crossing his arms over his chest. "I been watching that shit all night. That ass had me distracted like a mufucka."
"You so fucking ignorant," I said, trying to sound unimpressed even though my heart was pounding. "I’m yo’ homies lil’ situation, you really tryna press up on me?’
"Lil situation?" He laughed, "That what y'all calling it? 'Cause the way he been holding on to you all night, he think it's more than that."
"What me and Rah got going on ain't none of your business," I shot back.
"It ain't." He pushed off the wall, taking a step closer. "But you keep looking at me like that, it's gon' be."
My mouth opened, then closed. Because he was right. I had been looking at him. Not as much as he'd been looking at me, but enough.
"I don't know what you talking about," I lied.
