Yah-Yah
I woke up to an empty bed, my hand reaching over to Sosa side only to feel cold sheets. I frowned, sitting up and rubbing my eyes.
The clock on the nightstand said 9:47 AM. Where the fuck was he at?
Then I smelled bacon, eggs, something sweet like pancakes or French toast. My stomach growled immediately. At least he was downstairs cooking, that was sweet as hell. I smiled to myself, throwing the covers off and sliding out of bed. I had on one of Sosa old t-shirts and some boy shorts, my bonnet still on my head.
I padded downstairs, following the smell of food into the kitchen. But when I walked in, it wasn't Sosa standing at the stove. Instead it was Shaunie and my smile dropped instantly.
Sosa mama was at the stove flipping pancakes, her back to me, wearing some leopard print leggings and a black top, her hair in a high bun. She looked over her shoulder when she heard me walk in, and I swear I saw her lip curl up just a little bit.
"Good morning," she said, her tone flat as fuck.
"Morning." I tried to sound polite, but I was already irritated.
"Where Sosa at?"
"He left early this morning." She turned back to the stove, flipping another pancake. "he said he had some business to handle."
I frowned. "He ain't tell me he was leaving."
"Well, maybe if you wasn't knocked out sleep, you woulda heard him." She said it all casual, but I caught the shade. She always had something slick to say.
I felt my jaw clench. "Why you here?"
She looked at me again, raising an eyebrow. "Because my son asked me to come cook breakfast for him. This is his house, ain't it?"
"It's our house," I corrected her, emphasizing the word. "We live here together."
"Mm-hmm." She turned back to the stove, and I could tell she wanted to say more but was holding her tongue.
"You want some breakfast?" she asked, her tone still flat.
"Nah, I'm good." I wasn't about to eat shit from her this morning, especially with it only being me and her, knowing her petty ass, she probably spit in it.
I turned and walked back upstairs, pulling my phone off the charger. I called Sosa, and he answered on the third ring.
"What's good, baby?"
"Why your mama in our house cooking breakfast and you ain't even here?"
He laughed. "Damn, she already getting on your nerves?"
"Sosa, I'm deadass. Why she here?"
"I asked her to come through and cook breakfast while I handled something. I knew you was gon' be hungry when you woke up."
"I don't want her cooking for me. I want you here."
"I know, ma. That's why I'm calling. I need you to get dressed and meet me somewhere. I got a surprise for you."
I paused, my irritation fading a little bit. "A surprise?"
"Yeah. An early Christmas gift."
"Sosa, what you talking about?"
"Just get dressed and meet me at this address. I'ma text it to you right now."
