“I don’t really like sharing rooms with strangers, either.” I laughed softly.

He nodded. “I’ve gotten too used to having a bed to myself. But what about you? Are you sharing with anyone?”

“I usually share with Lucy,” I said, blotting some grease off my second piece of pizza with a napkin. “But since she’s staying at the Hastings’s beach house a couple of doors down with Owen, I might actually get a room to myself.”

“Lucky.”

“Perks of being Ky’s little sister, I guess.” I shrugged.

We finished our lunch and headed back to the Vanderbilts’ building to wait for the valet to bring Theo’s car around.

The drive out to the Hamptons went by quickly, and by late afternoon, we were pulling up to my brother’s coastal two-story summer house that sat on a quiet stretch of beach, just steps from the sand. There was a gorgeous pool in the backyard, a big hot tub on the deck, and enough space inside to fit the ten or so people Ky had invited to stay for the weekend.

“I’ll find Ky and see which room you’re in,” I told Theo as we stepped inside the entryway.

“Sounds good,” he replied, following just behind me with his duffle bag.

I headed toward the living room where I could hear voices, but I barely made it to the threshold before I completely froze.

Because sitting right there on Ky’s cream-colored couch, looking way too comfortable with his arm around a beautiful brunette, was Ky’s backup dancer, Diego.

Also known as the guy I’d secretly dated during Ky’s European tour last summer.

What is he doing here?

A sharp wave of panic hit me, and before I could even think, I was turning on my heel and bolting down the hall.

I made it to the kitchen in record time, and needing somewhere to hide, slipped into the butler’s pantry just off to the side, sliding the pocket door closed behind me.

What am I supposed to do?I wondered, my heart pounding hard against my ribs as I pressed my back to the wall.

I couldn’t stay here. Not when Diego was here.

Not when his girlfriend was sitting on the couch like they’d never been happier.

I pulled my phone out, my mind racing as I tried to figure out if I could catch a ferry back across the Sound to Connecticut and then take the train to New Haven.

It wouldn’t be ideal. But it would definitely be better than spending the weekend with the guy who’d only been using me to get his girlfriend back.

Yep, sadly, Miles wasn’t the only guy who’d ever used me to make someone jealous.

Though, at least with Miles, I’d been in on the scam.

Unlike last summer when I’d thought everything had been real, only to find out too late that Diego had never actually wanted me. I’d just been a pawn in his game to get Selena back.

Ugh.

I pulled up the Maps app, my fingers hovering over the screen as I tried to figure out the fastest way out of here.

Then I heard footsteps.

Right outside the pantry.

They slowed.

Then stopped.

My heart jumped into my throat.
