“Later,” he replied, and I could have sworn he fought a smile.
Figured. Like father, like son.
Chapter 15
“Idon’t know about this.” I fretted as I eyed my reflection in the mirror two nights later.
Connie and Ettie had invited themselves over to help me get ready for the party at the club.
“You look hot as hell!” Connie assured me with a grin.
At first I’d welcomed their input, but now that I was looking at the outfit they’d chosen I wasn’t so sure. Dressed in jean shorts, a thick brown belt, white tank top, and cowboy boots, I was showing more skin than I was used to.
“I’m too old for this outfit.” I shook my head, biting my lip.
“Bull.” Ettie snorted as she shifted Mason to the other hip. “You look hot. You have an amazing figure that you never show off. Look at those legs! They’re like a mile long! And I love how you did you hair,” she added, eyeing the messy waves I’d created with my rollers. “Cal is going to lose it when he sees you.”
I had to admit, the thought appealed to me.
“Fine, I’ll wear it.” I gave in. “But if I get any shit I’m blaming you two,” I added with a pointed finger and a glare at both of them.
“You can thank us both when you’re overwhelmed with compliments.” Ettie grinned serenely. “When is the sitter getting here? Laurie, right?”
I nodded. “Yep. She should be here soon,” I replied as I swept some gloss over my lips.
“How are you getting over there?” Connie asked, knowing that Cal had headed to the club already. He’d needed to meet with the Sinners and I wanted to let Laurie and Mason get to know each other a bit before I headed out.
“Tag is my chauffeur.” I grimaced, reaching over to take Mason back. “I told Cal a bunch of times I could drive myself, but he was adamant about it. He also wouldn’t let Tag bring me on his bike. Something about me not being on anyone’s bike but his.” I rolled my eyes at my over-the-top alpha.
Ettie laughed. “Sounds familiar,” she replied knowingly. “We’ve gotta jet,” she added, turning to Connie with a lifted brow. “Preggers takes about a decade to pick something to wear, so we better get started.”
Connie groaned dramatically. “I told you I already picked out my outfit! I’ll be two seconds,” she protested.
Ettie shot me ayeah rightlook that had me smothering a grin.
The doorbell rang just as I was walking the girls out. “Hey, come on in,” I greeted Laurie, ushering her inside. “These are my friends Connie and Ettie,” I introduced.
“Nice to meet you,” Connie replied as Ettie waved. “We’ve got to head out. Have fun with Bubs.”
Laurie nodded a bit shyly. “Nice to meet you too. Have fun tonight.”
“See you in a few, Jilly,” Con added as both girls waved and headed out the door.
“You look great.” Laurie grinned when I shut the door behind them.
“Thanks. You’re sure it’s not too much?” I asked worriedly.
“No, you look awesome,” she assured me. “Do you want to show me where everything is so you can take off?” she added, looking around Cal’s place.
“Sure thing,” I agreed, beginning to do just that.
By the time Tag’s truck rumbled to a stop in the driveway, Laurie and Mason were getting along fine. I’d given her a tour and walked her through the alarm system. I hadn’t told her that Ram, one of the Knights prospects, would be out front all night. I didn’t want to freak her out.
“I’m just about ready,” I told Tag by way of greeting when I opened the door to him. “Just need to grab my purse. This is Laurie,” I introduced distractedly. “She’s watching Mason tonight.”
His gaze swept over her and I didn’t imagine the hunger there. “Laurie.” His murmured rasp was deeper than usual.
Oh boy.
