I giggle, which has Tracker looking down at me, and earns me a huge smirk. He kisses my forehead, gives me a wink, and walks away. Mason is quick to reach me, but when he uses his sleeve to wipe my forehead, I can’t help the laughter that bursts out. Men, idiots, but we love them anyway.
Chapter 37
FINGER
Pres had called emergency church and discussed the death of Cap’s friend and his sister. Everyone agreed that we should look into what happened and why, and if needed we’ll do what we need to do. Cap is quiet and spends a lot of time in Keys’ office. It is what we would expect, and we respect what he needs to do.
Waiting in Tracker’s office for my next orders, I look over when the door opens and Cap enters. He throws himself into a chair and looks from Tracker to me, and back again.
“I’ve contacted Xero from our old team. He’s going to look into what happened, why, and get back to me. It won’t take long to find out what is going on, and when we do, I’m going to war. If I need to leave the MC to do it, I will. Pres, this is something I have to do,” Cap looks like he’s not slept for a week, which he probably hasn’t if truths told.
“I’m with you, Cap. Whatever you need me to do, I’ll do it.” I look at Pres who is staring out of the window, jaw clenched and death in his mind.
“Thanks, Finger, but I don’t want you getting into any shit when you are getting married in two days. I’ll be here for the wedding, then I’ll see what information I have, whether I stay or leave.”
Pres turns his head and looks at Cap. “We are a brotherhood, you are my brother, and if you need to go sort this shit out, then the brothers will come with you. Let’s get the information we need before we make any decisions.”
“Xero has a lot of contacts, and he’ll make sure all he finds is the truth. I’ll sit and wait for now, Pres,” Cap replies, and I can see he will, but it’s killing him to do so.
Two hours later, Pres, Hot Rod, and I are standing in the reception area of the tattoo studio. Three people are sitting waiting to be tattooed, and Jethro, looking nervous as shit, is standing behind the reception counter.
“Are you doing okay, Jethro?” I ask.
He flicks his eyes toward me before responding. “I’m okay, Finger. Just worried that I'll do something wrong.”
Honest, very honest, and it’s what we would expect from him. “It’ll all be okay. Takes time to learn new shit, and if you get something wrong, learn from it and don’t do it wrong again.”
“That’s right,” Pres grunts while picking up a portfolio of Scribe's previous work.
The door opens, and a woman walks into the studio. She has long hair, and I mean waist-length. Jet black with a bright red band of hair on one side of her face. She’s wearing leather, so she must be a rider or a passenger on a bike. Taking her jacket off, she has two full sleeves of tat’s and as she lifts her head, she sees Tracker.
Now, I’ve seen men undress women, but I’ve not seen a woman so thoroughly undress a man. None of it, of course, worries Tracker. He stands calmly, giving her the same treatment, and when their eyes meet, I’m not sure if it’s attraction or something else that occurs. Tracker, however, turns his back on her, and that is it as far as any of us are concerned.
The woman shrugs, showing no sign of being hurt that Tracker rejected her looking at him. She strode over to Jethro and made a appointment for an ankle tattoo, then strutted out of the studio.
“Not interested, Pres?” Hot Rod asks, and I admit I’m eavesdropping for what he is going to reply.
“No, seen them all before. Pretty enough, in fact, beautiful. But when I meet my woman, she’ll not be brazen in that way. I want a woman who has some fire, but not brash or that forward. Like Cilla…” now he says that while giving me a side-eyed look and a fuckin’ smirk.
“Fuck off, Pres. Keep your eyes off Cilla.”
Tracker laughs, knowing he is getting to me. But he stirs the pot even more. “You know I’m walking her down the aisle to you, don’t you? Well, I could walk her in the opposite direction.” The fucker laughs loudly. “I’m gonna be the baby's godfather too, which means I can teach it whatever the fuck I like.”
Grunting and growling is all I can do because the fucker is my president after all. But then he laughs again and heads out. Hot Rod slaps my shoulder and chuckles, “Don’t let him get to you. You know it’ll make it worse.”
I follow them both out to our hogs and know at least the studio is up and running with no issues. That’s what we came to see, and that’s what we found.
Later that evening, sitting with Cilla we check out all the information Miranda has sent. Nothing for us to change or worry about, and I’m looking forward to the wedding. Getting married has never worried me; it was who I ended up being married to that had me panicking in the past.
“Have you heard anything about that piece of land we want to build our house on?” Cilla asks, and I forgot to tell her what I heard today.
“Oh, I forgot to tell you. The man who owns that piece has agreed to sell, and he’s good with the offer we placed. It’s all about paperwork now, but Jeremy has a new team ready to work solely on our homes and they might work out well as prospects, or brothers for the club,” I kiss the top of her head as she rests her head on my shoulder. I love the time we sit here in the living room, cuddling on the couch. Yeah, I said cuddling and don’t care who knows.
“That’s good. I’m thrilled about living on the compound. I’ll be near everyone, and when we have the baby, it’ll be safe behind the compound fencing.”
“Back to the wedding. Everything is set and nothing should go wrong. We can’t say won’t because, fuck, anything can happen when we live with ghosts.” I laugh at that comment because I’ve noticed things moving when nobody is around. I mean, like this morning when I was standing in the kitcheneating my toast while looking out the window and the glass on the drainer moved from one place to another. I just thoughtgo for itand walked out of the kitchen. If it amuses the ghostly fuckers, let them get on with it. For all I know, it could be boring as all hell when you're dead and loitering around.
TWO DAYS LATER…
