“The Prophet will be here soon, but lucky me, sis. I get to fuck you first.”

Chapter Five

KNOX

We stand outside the gates of St. Dymphna’s, ready to kill everyone we come across. Heather’s tracker isn’t working, and we don’t know why. We decided to start here because it’s better than sitting on our hands hoping for a goddamn miracle. Bones and Kage are working with Benji to find the Prophet. Psycho, Reaper, and Raven are with us because apparently, they like to kill people. Maybe it’s a family trait.

“Ready?” Raven asks, and Carter groans impatiently in response.

“Let’s fucking go.”

My brother has been ready to snap since that fucker took our girl away. He didn’t bring his bow. When I asked why he didn’t have it he said, ‘I want their fucking blood covering my hands.’

As planned, Raven and Reaper go ahead of us to clear the gates.

They move silently, dressed in black, blending into the dark sky. There are two armed guards in front of the partially opened gate, both of them smoking a cigarette with their backs turned. Big fucking mistake.

Raven and Reaper move in sync like a fucking choreographed dance, it’s almost beautiful.

Reaper reaches up and places his hand around the throat of the guard on the left. Raven takes a scalpel to the man on the right and slashes across his forehead. The man tries to get away while yelling for help but his voice comes out as a croak, barely audible. Raven quickly cuts his throat while complaining.

“Nobody ever lets me have fun anymore.”

Carter and Psycho walk over to the bodies and pull them into the guard shack. Psycho comes out with a remote in one hand and his knife in the other.

Carter knows this place better than any of us including the way they operate.

“There are guards everywhere. Inside and outside. The two priests high up have guards on them at all times.”

Raven drags his hand down his face.

“Do you know where they’re stationed outside? We need to clear out here first if we don’t want to get shot.”

Carter fishes his phone out of his pocket, unlocks it and shows the picture of the asylum to Raven.

“Here, there will be two.” He points to the other side.

“Another eight here because there’s an entrance there. That will probably be the largest group we encounter. It might be easier to shoot them. We all have guns.”

“Guns are boring.” Psycho says setting Carter off.

“We are trying to find our girl not fucking entertain you.”

Trying to calm my brother before shit escalates, I clear my throat.

“Carter is right, and he can kill four or five himself before the rest even notice his presence.”

All three of them stare at me as if I’ve lost my mind.

“If that’s the plan I sure as hell hope he has the aim and speed to back that up. Or we’re all dead.” Psycho says, twirling his knife in his hand.

I nod in his direction.

“He has both. Trust me.”

Psycho opens the gate the rest of the way and Carter walks through first and we follow behind him.

Stopping briefly he attaches his silencer to his hand gun before moving a few feet closer to his intended target—two guards. I’m the only one of us not bothering to remove my gun from my holster. Carter fires and shoots the first guard and then the second. Three guards run from around the corner, one of them has a hand on his weapon but doesn’t get a chance to pull it out. Carter shoots them in the head one by one, and they drop to the ground.
