I glance at Knox as we move on from Murphy’s office to find Desjardins.
“Crazy is definitely a genetic trait.”
Knox nods with a smile on his face.
“It is. And that’s why we have to find her. She’s our equal.”
I agree with him. Heather fits with us like she was born to be ours.
“We will, and if he has hurt her—Fuck. It’s going to be beautiful watching him beg for his life.”
Knox growls, and it sounds as painful as I feel.
“He’s dead either way, but I agree. Her condition will dictate how long it takes.”
I exhale a long breath, ready to face my past.
Chapter Seven
KILLIAN
“Did you miss me?”
Carter and Knox both whip around and look at me. Knox’s eyes are amused, while Carter's are furious.
“What the fuck. You’re supposed to be in the hospital. Remember, at least two days. You just had fucking surgery.”
I grin at him as I reassure him.
“Relax. I’m a little lighter without my spleen, but I’m fine. I’ll be a lot better when we have our girl.”
Carter shakes his head at me, disapproval written all over his face.
“When we find her, and we will—she’s going to be pissed at you.”
“And I look forward to it. Can we go kill people now?”
Once Carter moves forward, we follow behind him, and Knox asks, “Are you really okay?”
Shrugging, I admit, “I’m tender from the surgery as expected, but the site feels a lot better than my heart does.”
When they came to the hospital and told me Heather was gone—again, I thought I was having a heart attack. Then, when they said her tracker wasn’t working right, I was sure I was goingto die. I knew I’d leave the hospital once they weren’t there to stop me. It’s not a choice. Like Carter, I won’t live without her. I’m not sure I can. Heather taught me how to love. I am going to kill this motherfucker. If she has a single hair out of place on her head when we find her, he will suffer.
We are coming for you, baby. Please hold on, for me—for us.
Carter grips his gun, points it forward and walks into an office.
Pop pop pop.
Three guards are dead, and I smile at the one man left, a face I recognize. I’ve seen him before.
Desjardins.
He was here when I got Carter out. The day I came here willing to do anything to save my brother never strays far from my mind.
I stare at my brother as he is brought to me in a wheelchair. He is black and blue. His eyes are swollen, and I’m destroyed at the sight of him. I turn to Desjardins with a sneer.
“What the fuck did you do to him?”
