“Uh-uh.”Heshook his head, and a serious look came over his face.

My heart sank—he didn’t want breakfast.Hedidn’t want to stay here with me at all.Hewas going to leave.

“Oh, you…you don’t want breakfast?”Iasked, my voice dropping to a whisper.

“No,Ijust don’t wantyoumaking it.Youmade supper last night. It’smy turn to cook.”

My heart leaped up again andIfelt the need to let out a sign of relief.Myface must have shown the range of emotionsIwas feeling becauseKorfrowned and studied me closely.

“Hey, what’s wrong?Whatdid you thinkIwas going to say?”

“I thought maybe…maybe you wanted to leave,”Iadmitted.

Kor stared at me for a moment as thoughIhad suddenly started speaking another language.Thenhe shook his head.

“Why wouldIever want to leave, now thatI’vefound you?”

For a moment,Icouldn’t speak.Icould only stare at him as warmth spread through my chest.Nobodyhad ever said anything like that to me before.

Kor seemed to realize how intense what he’d just said sounded.Heran a hand through his tousled hair and gave a sheepish laugh.

“I mean,Iknow that sounds crazy,” he said.“Webarely know each other. It’sjust…”Heshrugged one broad shoulder.“Itfeels sorightwith you, you know?”

I swallowed hard and nodded.

“Yes,”Iwhispered.“That’sexactly how it feels.”

His warm brown eyes met mine.

“You feel it too?”

“I do.”Itook a deep breath.“Idon’t understand it,Kor.Noneof this makes sense.ButwhenI’mwith you,Ifeel happier thanI’vebeen in years.AndwhenIthink about you leaving…”Myvoice faltered.“IguessIjust don’t want this to end.”

A slow smile spread across his face.

“Well, that’s good.”

“Why?”

“BecauseIdon’t want it to end either.”

Something inside me seemed to loosen then.Sometight knot of fearIhadn’t even realizedIwas carrying began to unravel.

Kor leaned forward and kissed my forehead.

“Now that we’ve established neither of us is going anywhere, can we move on to more important matters?”

I frowned.

“More important matters?Likewhat?”

“Breakfast.”

I laughed.

“Breakfast?”

“Absolutely.”Henodded solemnly.“Aman can’t survive on love alone.”
