It’s the kind of kiss that takes me back to the closet, and to Amber Bradshaw’s party. The kind of kiss where the rest of the world melts away, and I almost forget my own name.

‘Welcome home,’ I whisper against his mouth as he groans against me.

‘Thank you, baby,’ he says.

It’s some moments before I raise my head again. ‘I have a surprise for you,’ I say.

‘You do? What is it?’

I draw back. ‘It kind of requires you to be in the bedroom.’

AJ lets out a satisfied hum. It takes some minutes for us to transfer him from the couch to the bed via a medical center-issued wheelchair with an elevated leg board attached to it, supporting his entire cast.

‘Wait here,’ I tell him, once we’ve got him sat up in bed, propped up by pillows, the blinds on the windows pulled fully down. ‘I just need a few minutes.’

‘It’s not like I can go anywhere anyways,’ AJ says, biting back a laugh.

‘This is true,’ I reply. ‘Then close your eyes a minute.’

AJ reaches for his T-shirt and lifts it over his head, discarding it. He then crosses his arms over his chest and does as he’s instructed. I stop a minute to take in the sight, fully appreciating the sight of his biceps, his rock-hard abs and the contours of his chest. Liquid heat throbs between my thighs. I grab a bag from the floor and go inside the ensuite.

‘Are your eyes still closed?’ I shout from inside the bathroom when I’m almost done.

‘They are,’ he shouts back.

I open the door and poke my head around it just to be sure. Then I slide out, back into the bedroom.

I didn’t know that the act of putting on sexy lingerie would get me so worked up, but wearing it is doing wonders for my confidence, and I vow to go back to the store to buy a few more sets.

When I told the sales assistant my boyfriend rides a motorcycle, she gave me a wink and offered to give me some recommendations.

In the end I picked out a black lace push-up bra with a lacy thong that barely covers a thing, or maybe that’s the point. But there’s something else I’m wearing on top. I position myself beside the bathroom doorframe, the light from inside giving my skin a golden glow.

‘Okay, you can open your eyes now,’ I tell him.

His eyes drift open. For a moment, they travel the length of my body, his expression swiftly turning dusky, his eyelids a touch hooded.

His upper lip twitches. ‘Is that my jacket?’

Keeping my eyes fixed on his, I nod my head. ‘It is.’

He exhales shakily. ‘I thought it was lost in the fire.’

‘Lester saw you throw it, right before you jumped. He stopped by the other day to return it.’ I stroke the soft leather. ‘It’s undamaged.’

‘Come closer,’ he says in a low tone.

I do as I’m asked, but still out of AJ’s reach.

‘You look so beautiful wearing my jacket,’ he says.

‘Do you want me to take it off?’

He keeps his gaze on mine. ‘No,’ he says. ‘Keep it on. The whole time.’

I bite my lip.

‘I’ve been thinking about this a lot,’ he says. ‘Our first night together after I got out.’
