Thank fuck I sprang for the bulletproof glass.

I run toward her as the men start surrounding the car again.

One body after another falls to the ground. Blood stains the ground, Aiden's men pressing in from all directions, Robert's men surging out of other warehouses and cars, still coming at Summer.

Like fuck he's going to take her.

I aim at one man, the bullet sinking into the back of his head. As he goes to the ground, I take aim at another.

The body falls.

Summer turns and looks at me through the window, her eyes wide and her mouth dropping open. She shakes her head, pointing at something behind me.

I don't care. I keep running for her.

She scrambles to open the car door, throwing it as wide as she can.

As I get in, a hand clamps on my shoulder, hauling me back and tossing me to the ground. The pain from the bullet wounds, combined with the pain from my head cracking against the ground, has my head spinning, stars dancing across my vision.

"Noah!" Summer screams.

The stars are still dancing across my vision, and when I prop myself up to look at her, there are three different Summers swaying in front of me.

Robert appears in front of me, gun aimed at my head. "You should probably say goodbye. You're not going to survive."

I look to Summer, hoping she's going to run. I want her to scream and run, to find her brother and get somewhere I know she's going to be safe.

She doesn't do any of that.

Please go. You can't watch me die. I can't bear the thought of you watching me die.

Chapter Twenty-Five

NOAH

My vision clears,Robert's ugly fucking face coming into view, and the gun pointed between my eyes coming into sharp focus.

My heart stops in my chest, Summer's small gasp from inside the car sending pain running through me.

I need her to leave. But I know she's not going to. I can see it in her eyes when I quickly glance at her before looking away again.

Robert chuckles and presses a foot to my chest, shoving my back down to the ground. "Throw the gun."

My hand tightens around the gun, but his foot moves to my wrist.

Without another thought, I drop it, sending it under the car and hoping it's close enough to the edge for Summer to grab. While she's already got a gun, I know the one I keep in the car barely has any bullets.

Robert doesn't notice the way she creeps out of the car behind him, leaning down and reaching under the car until her hand wraps around the metal.

I do my best not to pay attention to her either. I don't want him seeing what she's doing.

"Gonna kill me?" I smirk up at him as his foot leaves my wrist. I tuck my hands behind my head. "I thought you'd never have it in you. Good to see that, after all these years, you finally grew some balls."

"Fuck you. You don't know the first thing about what I've been doing these last few years."

I spare a quick glance at the car only to see Summer's not there.

My chest clenches, each breath harder and harder to drag in.
