A sliver of relief washed over me, yet it didn’t make the club Laius ran any less illegal.

“Doyouthink you’ll want him after you know what he’s done and what he continues to do? And don’t compare him to me. I’m your father. He’s going to be your man. You’ll share a life, and his sins will become yours.”

“I think I love him enough to accept him and his sins.”

“Love?”

I laughed and cried at the same time, at how ridiculous that must have sounded. It was too soon and too dangerous and too wrong. I meant, even our names were dooming us to a tragedy. Jocasta and Laius? Really? What was next? I had his son who would grow up to kill him and marry me? “It’s… Yes. I think I’m in love with Furore.”

He didn’t respond for a long time I had to check the phone to see if the call was disconnected. “Michele?”

“Listen, Jo. I don’t approve of your relationship with Lazzarini, but you don’t need my approval or blessing. If you truly think you love him and he can make you happy, then you have to go and be with him. Just promise me you won’t tell him how we’re connected yet. Not untilIcan trust him with you. Do you hear me, topolina?”

“Yes,” I said, starting the car.

“Then promise me.”

I wasn’t planning on hiding anything from Laius. I trusted him that much, but I couldn’t say no to Michele either. “I promise,” I said as I checked the GPS and looked through the windshield to make sure for the millionth time that I was heading toward the right place. Rosewood. The Night Skulls’ compound where Laius had told me he was staying in an angry message after he promised topunishme for not being there yesterday outside of the Arena or at my place when he’d come looking for me.

My vagina buzzed with anticipation, and when a couple of motorcycles flashed out of the forthcoming, creepy gates, my nipples hardened at the thrill for I was indeed in Rosewood.

“There’s a couple more things you need to know before—”

My heart contracted, and I couldn’t hear what Michele was saying, as another motorcycle darted out of the ugly gates. Ty’s bike with him on it.

CHAPTER 23

Furore

“Wipe that fucking frown off your face and get your hairy dick wet.” Fort yawned, only in his boxers, scratching his balls in what remained of the kitchen. “Can’t believe you spent the whole night fucking your fist in a cold bed.” He grabbed himself a beer. Breakfast for champs. “But don’t ya worry. I got you covered. Told all the whores to stay in. You can’t wait on the bitch forever. You’re fucking Prez. She ditched your ass last night. You go have some fun with another pussy. There’s plenty to choose from.”

“Don’t call her that,” I growled at my own beer, not even looking at him.

“Huh?”

“You heard me. She’smybitch. OnlyIget to call her that.”

“Ugh, fuck this shit. I didn’t throw you that motherfucking party so you can pout like a fart ass baby. You just came out of the slammer, bro. Get your cock sucked and your shit together. You don’t need the trouble that girl is causing now. We need ya, and so does Rex. At least, he came, y’all. Shouldn’t you be dancing off your ass that he did?”

“My shit is together, Fort. I don’t need your old ass to remind me of what I gotta do. Don’t forget who you’re talking to.”

“Sorry, Prez,” he mumbled.

“And Rex only came to bitch about his fucking mother. He’s still in diapers and he’s giving me a piece of his shitty mind, tellingme, his own daddy, to fuck off. I swear that boy is gonna be the end of me.”

“He’s a fucking prick raised by a wench, sure, but sometimes that shit is better than nothing. He hasn’t talked to you in what? Fifteen years? He showed up last night, bro. Yeah, he didn’t help himself to any pussy either,” he rolled his eyes and threw his hands in the air like he didn’t know what the fuck was wrong with us, “and he was talking shit and what not, but he showed the fuck up.”

“I just didn’t need that shit now. He’s fucking eighteen. I thought he’d get his head out of his ass and start listening and seeing things for what they really are.” I thought she would, too.

I glanced at my phone for what must have been the hundredth time, but there were no messages from her. I started to worry. What if she didn’t make it because something bad happened? She and her car weren’t at her place at night, either. I checked.

Or she just ditched your ass like Fort said and left town like she’d planned.

Fuck. Slamming the counter, I got off the dingy stool. “I’m going for a ride.”

“C’mon,” he drawled. “You’re gonna look for her, aren’t ya?”

I threw a glare at him and grabbed my keys. On my way out, a commotion started. Bitches were yelling, and then one of them was crying. “She hit me! I’m fucking bleeding, you bitch!”
