I know Grey cares about me. I mean, he should, given that I am officially moving in with him in less than a week, well, technically I moved in a day ago. It still baffles me when he says that he doesn’t want me to worry about anything because it means he truly takes my feelings into consideration, and nobody has ever really done that before. Not like he does.

“My parents will be there to watch you,” I tell him. My mom recently informed me about it. She was really excited to watch a game of Grey’s in person, even though she gives maybe minus ten fucks about ice hockey.

Both of my parents have practically adopted Grey now. I swear, my father calls him more often than me, and if Dad does call me, he only ever asks about Grey. I love and hate it at the very same time.

Grey chuckles. “So your mom told me.”

Of course she did. “If you get the chance to, hug her for me, okay?”

“Will do.” Knowing Grey, he will do it even if he doesn’t want to. “Listen, baby, I have to hang up. We’re on our way to the arena now, I’ll text you when I get there.”

“You’ll call, won’t you?” I’m grinning, knowing he will, even if he has to put me on speaker because he’s rushing to get geared-up.

“Probably.”

“I’ll be waiting for it.”

“Of course. I love you.”

Before I can reply, I hear a gag in the background which makes me laugh. I bet it came from either Colin or Aaron because they do this all the time when they’re around us. Apparently seeing Grey in love is as rare to them as finding a potato growing on a tree. And they love to make fun of him a little. Maybe I’d find it weird if I didn’t know all four of them do this to each other.

“I love you, too,” I finally say with a hint of a chuckle in my voice. A second later, Grey hangs up the phone.

As I grab the remote to turn on the TV to catch the beginning of the game, even if that’s still two hours away, I hear the door to Grey and I’s apartment open.

Grey andI’sapartment. It still sounds surreal to me.

I turn around on the sofa in time to catch blond hair running inside. “Wuan!” Eden shrieks and comes to a halt right in front of me. “Daddy made food and he tell me to tell you if you, uh, if you want to… eat too? And we watch the hockey game together after, uh… we eat the food Daddy made.”

Since I’ve been technically living here for two weeks already—minus the couple of days I went home for one last Christmas with my family—I realized something; when your boyfriend’s best friend is a chef, you will eat a whole lot more than what you’re used to. And you suddenly become a lab rat. Anything new Miles tries, he makes all of us try it and give our opinions.

The worst bit, I don’t think this guy ever made a single dish that wasn’t good enough to be served up in heaven.

I get up onto my feet. “Free food and ice hockey, of course I’m in, little guy.”

Grey hasn’t called yet, and the game was supposed to start five minutes ago.

The moderators said there will be a delay for the game and that it’s possible it will start around 8:30 because the bus hasn’t arrived yet.

Why the fuck hasn’t the bus arrived yet?!

They hadtwohours to get from the airport to the arena, and the arena is fifty minutes away by car. Let’s say an hour-thirty with heavy traffic, but definitely not two hours.

Lily, Sofia, and I are sitting on Miles and Emory’s sofa with our phones in our hands, all of us waiting for a stupid phone call. Even a message will do.

“What if they’ve died?” Lily mumbles, and from the corner of my eye I can see that she’s dialing Colin’s number for the tenth time in two minutes.

The call goes straight to voicemail.

“They probably just have their phones turned off,” Miles tries to comfort Lily, but it doesn’t work. When he realizes that it doesn’t work, Miles lays both of his hands on her shoulders. “Lily, you need to calm down. I know this seems impossible right now, but youreallyhave to. Stress isn’t good for the baby.”

Fuck, right. Lily’s pregnant. So are Sofia and Emory. I don’t know how I forgot about that.

The worst part about this, while everyone here is scared about their friends and partner, Lily has it a million times worse. If the worst-case scenario happened—praying to everything holy that’s not the case—that they’ve gotten into an accident and the entire team died, Lily wouldn’t just lose her husband andfriends, she would lose her husband, friend, and twin brother. Oh, and her father-in-law.

My hands are trembling, my eyes glued onto my phone screen, waiting. Waiting for what I don’t think is going to come anymore.

I am a very optimistic person, but right now, even I can’t think of any other reason as to why the game had been delayed by half an hour.
