“So, that’s why you wanted to pull it out,” I sigh, squirming against him. “Not today, mister.”

“That’s not a ‘never gonna happen’. I’ll take that as a win.” He presses a kiss to the side of my neck before pulling his finger from me and kissing me tenderly under the spray as he finishes washing us. I hightail it out of there before the man can get any more ideas about things he’d like to do to my body. That last stretch has me tired and hungry. I throw my hair up in a towel and slip into a pair of soft pants and a tee. Screw the bra and panties.

Shuffling into the kitchen, I beeline for the fridge to see what I have for dinner for the two of us. I glance over at the clock to see it’s well after five, the angle of the sunlight outside telling me the day’s almost over. There’s no point in sendinghim home hungry or eating alone. He makes his way into the kitchen, yawning and looking handsome as hell with his mussed hair. The scruff along his jaw is as tantalizing as it was the day I met him in the hospital during his long shift. He wraps his arms around my middle and squeezes once before letting go and leaning against the counter next to me.

“Dinner?”

“I wasn’t going to assume, but I’m not about to say no to food or more time with you.”

I eye him with a sweet smile, because that shit right there warms my heart.

“Are you in the mood for brenner?”

“Hmmm, possibly. Like pancakes?”

“The answer is always pancakes.”

“I’m down.”

“Go pick a movie, because I’m not eating at the table.”

“I’m not going to say what I was just thinking.”

I cock a brow at him, curious.

“Nope.” He acts as if he’s zipping his lips and dropping the key on the floor next to us. I chuckle. How is this man a doctor?

“You don’t start work tomorrow, do you?”

“No, one last week of freedom that I’ll happily sign over to you, if you should so desire. I am a-okay with being naked and waiting in a bed for you as soon as you walk in the door from work.”

I snort, almost dropping the pancake mix I grabbed from the fridge at his declaration. When I turn to him with both brows raised, I’m greeted with a deadly smile, pulling out all the dimple magic it can muster.Damn if this man isn’t fucking adorable.

“That’s good to know.”

“You’re perfect,” Jaxon whispers, leaning forward to peck my lips before disappearing into the living room to search for amovie. Now the only things that would make it more perfect is if I didn’t have work tomorrow and he was curled up with me on the couch in a hoodie and grey sweatpants. Girl dinner. Well, kind of.

Chapter 20

Holly

It's Tuesday. School just finished for the day, and I'm grading papers when Summer rushes into my room with a frantic, flushed face and plasters herself to the wall beside my open door.

“Oh my gosh,” she puffs out heavily. “I was making some copies in the office and just about ran smack dab into the chest of thehottest, and I mean themostdeliciousguy to grace our hallways in years. If he's a hot, single dad to a new student,” she tilts her head up to the ceiling, “please let that student be one of mine.”

The laughter that escapes me is of pure joy because it takes a lot to fluster Summer, and this is gold.

“Well, what'd he look like?”

“Tall. Dark hair. Blazing smile with dimples. Green eyes. And he had a motorcycle helmet. Holy moly, please let him be a single dad.”

I press my lips together, smothering a giggle when the gorgeous man in question darkens my doorway, just out of Summer's sights. I attempt to get her attention, to no avail, whenhe clears his throat to announce his presence. She freezes before doing a quick double-take and withers where she stands.

“I'm gonna go die now…” Summer mutters low, closing her eyes and pressing her head against the wall as if the wall could just absorb her.

“How is it that I always walk up on conversations about me?” Jaxon asks, voice full of hilarity. “I'm Jaxon, and no, I'm not a proud daddy yet, but someday.AndI'm very much taken with Miss Holly here. If you truly feel like you’re dying, you’re in luck. I know CPR and have years of ER experience.”

Summer squints her eyes open, knowing she can't hide anymore, then really looks at Jaxon before she turns shades of red I've never seen on her before.
