I didn’t have to think about it. “No.”

“That was quick.” He huffed in amusement.

I shrugged. “Didn’t require much thinking.”

“Good.” His voice was raspy and low. “That’s good.”

We just stared into each other’s eyes for a moment, basking in the late afternoon sun and the afterglow of our passion.

“Do you…” I hesitated. “I mean, um, are you happy? About me being here?”

Sasha narrowed his eyes ever so slightly and examined my face. I bit the inside of my cheek nervously; my stomach was in knots.

“Happy?” he echoed.

“It’s just that, you know, sometimes you can really hype something up in your head,” I rushed to explain, “and then when you get it and are around it every day it turns out to be … not as great as you’d expected.”

The corner of his mouth twitched, and he cupped my jaw in his hand.

“If you’re questioning whether I’mhappy,” he emphasized the word like it was something utterly ridiculous, “then clearly I haven’t been doing my job right. What you’re making me feel is not happiness. That’s too weak of a word. Not nearly enough to encompass it. I’m fucking obsessed with you. I crave you every second of every day, and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to let you go.”

I buried my face in his neck, our bodies pressed together. “Good thing I don’t have any plans of leaving then, huh?”

Sasha’s breath hitched and he hugged me tighter against him. “Yeah. Good thing.”

Chapter 32

Addy

WhenIgotbackhome from an impromptu shopping trip, Sasha was waiting for me — rather impatiently, I might add.

“Finally! What took you so long?”

“Had I known you were waiting for me, I might have hurried up. But since you didn’t bother to let me know…” I lifted a shoulder and shot him a pointed look.

Sasha snared my wrist, his rings feeling cold against my heated skin, and practically dragged me out onto the terrace.

“What are you doing?”

He peered at me over his shoulder. “Got a surprise for you.”

I just love it when he gives me all the information.

“You do? And where exactly are we going?”

He pulled me up one of the winding paths crossing through the compound. I was quite sure I’d never been down this particular path before.

“Wouldn’t be a surprise if I told you,” he deadpanned.

“I hate surprises.”

It was a straight-up, bold-faced lie.

Sasha scoffed. “You love surprises.”

Damn it! How did he know?

“How would you know?” I squinted at him.
