I could see the relief wash over Kinsley as she shook my sister’s hand.

“I think I saw you dropping Emerson off this morning.” Kinsley was blushing as she stared at me while talking to Piper.

“That would be me.” Piper smiled, completely unaware of the awkwardness of the situation.

“Aunt Piper, let me show you my cubby.” Emerson dragged Piper away, leaving Kinsley and me standing in the middle of the classroom as parents fluttered around with their excited kids.

“This is awful,” she muttered.

“Tell me about it.” I dug my hands into the pockets of my jeans, not having the slightest clue how to handle the situation.

“I should probably get back to it.” Kinsley rubbed her sides nervously.

“See you after at the Red Crow?”

“I definitely need a drink after this. I’ll see you there.”

I breathed a sigh of relief as she composed herself and dove right back into teacher mode.

As Emerson showed me around the classroom, I couldn’t help but glance over at Kinsley. She was completely captivating.

I’m a goner.

“Going back outto see your hot little teacher?” Piper pestered while cleaning up from dinner.

“What?” I gaped over at her.

“Your mystery girl from last night is Emerson’s teacher, isn’t she?”

Piper was too good.Dammit.

I rubbed the back of my neck. “How’d you know?”

“I saw the way the two of you were looking at each other. I’m not dumb, Maccon.”

I bowed my head. “It’s bad, isn’t it?”

“Just don’t fuck it up and everything will be fine.”

“Emerson can’t know,” I demanded, pointing a sharp finger at my sister.

“Fuck no. She cannot find out.”

I pulled on my leather and dug in my pocket for the keys to my Harley. Tossing them into the bowl on the counter, I swapped them out for my truck keys. I didn’t want Elijah to recognize my bike from the night before and get spooked. I wasn’t going to take any chances. We only had one shot at this.

“Don’t wait up for me, sis.” I pecked her on the cheek.

“Wasn’t planning on it.”

Sitting rightwhere she had been the night before, Kinsley was waiting for me with drinks at the ready.

“Fancy seeing you here.” I kissed her cheek before sitting down.

“Hey there, handsome.” She smiled over her shoulder at me. “That was some surprise tonight.”
