“I leave to shoot a wedding in Nashville in a few days. What about you?”
Dozer bolted into the bush next to me after a squirrel, yanking me away from Finn. Trotting to get back next to us where Dozer was grunting at the base of the tree the squirrel had escaped up into, Finn took the leash from me. “Here, let me.”
Dozer quickly lost interest and we continued back toward my apartment. “I leave tomorrow afternoon for five days.”
Thinking about being away from Finn, even for just a few days, bothered me more than it should. “That’ll be fun.”
He shrugged, wrapping his free arm around my waist. “It would be better if you could come with me.”
Leaning into his shoulder, I sighed. “That’s the nature of the beast. Our work schedules are bound to clash.”
We stopped in front of my building, the doorman holding the door open for us. “Coming up?”
Finn handed me Dozer’s leash, shaking his head. “I would love to, but I have laundry to do before I leave. I really need to get home.”
His hand softly landed on my cheek as he pulled me in for a tender goodbye kiss.
“Text me?” His words were barely audible.
I nodded. “Sure.”
I smiled and stared as Finn went to the curb and hailed a cab.
