“I originally meant that being a smart ass because you’re painfully independent but now that you mentioned it is pretty ironic,” he laughs. “Come on, Luna.”

I shake my head and we walk out to our cars. He winks at me again before getting into his car. I drive through town and stop to get more coffee before pulling up to the office.

I lay my head back and think if I could get away with just driving back home. Right as I have that thought, there’s a knock at my door before it opens. “You are a persistent little shit,” I say without opening my eyes.

“Never been called little before. That’s new,” he laughs.

“You’re going to do it again, aren’t you?” I ask as I grab my bag and get out.

“I am,” he says simply.

“Wonderful,” I sigh.

We walk inside and he goes straight to the back but I go to the front desk. “Checking in?” she asks

“Yes, ma’am,” I say.

“And you are seeing Dr. Rivers,” she remarks.

“Are there other options?” I ask. Dominic looks up from a computer in the back and I can’t help but smile at him when he frowns.

“Not anymore,” she says. “Dr. Rivers is good at what he does though. You’ll enjoy him.” She says this as I’m taking a sip of my coffee and I damn near choke to death on the liquid when I accidentally suck it in.

“Apparently so,” I cough. “I’ll go sit now.” She smiles and nods before I find a seat. I get my phone out of my bag and resume reading my book. This one is a sweeter type of book, at least compared to everything else I read. I don’t even read trigger warnings at this point since nothing really bothers me. If I do end up accidentally triggering myself then it’s definitely my fault for not paying attention.

The same nurse appears in the doorway and smiles at me. “Ready?” she asks.

“Mhmm,” I say as I put my phone away and stand to follow her.

We go through the same process of getting my vitals, but this time she draws blood. I assume it is a routine thing for surgery.

My dad was beside himself when I told him about the biopsy and the procedure, but I assured him that the doctor was not concerned, and he was more concerned about the pain than anything else. Harper called to tell him the same thing because he was beside himself. I hardly ever talk to my sister, but I called to tell her that. Her remark was simply that she was glad that I was doing what her and Mom did not.

“Alright, just undress from the waist down and Dr. Rivers will be in shortly,” she says, kindly.

“Thanks,” I sigh. When she walks out of the room, I get undressed and sit on the table. Once I’m covered up, I text Harper.

Me: Here we go again

Harper: Did he show up this morning?

Me: Yes. Apparently, he reads dark romance. He was looking at the books on my shelf. Also, he said he would check on me since you have to go back when you take me home.

Harper: You two may as well go on a date.

Me: Hush. Men like him want a woman who… well aren’t me.

Harper: I’m willing to bet that he is going to show up tomorrow night to check on you even though I’m there. Also, I’m definitely telling him you said that.

There's a light knock at the door before Dominic comes into the room. “Good morning,” he says with a kind smile.

“Don’t you dare call me Ms. Brooks,” I say.

“Okay, Luna,” he chuckles. “So, I’m going to do the same exam. It’s a bit more in-depth. The reason I’m going to do it again is to confirm that you don’t have a mobile pelvis”, he says.

“What do you mean?” I ask.

“Well, your cervix and uterus move, or should, with an exam like this. If it doesn’t, you have a higher likelihood of having the adhesions. Last time you had no movement at all, and it was just a part of the annual exam, so I didn’t go into it as much as I normally would whenever we’re specifically looking for endometriosis. If you still have no movement today, then I'm going to make sure that we have the time allotted for me to take care of the adhesions. We are also looking at the possibility of you having cysts on your ovaries if the endometriosis is as severe as I think it is. Anything that I can take care of I’d like to go ahead and do so we can try to prevent future surgeries.”
