She smiled brightly at Trent.“Aren’t you the sweetest brother ever?”
Trent snorted.“Or it could be I’m sick of running into you guys making out and want you to move as soon as possible.”
Emma rolled her eyes, and Damon chuckled.
Trent glanced at his watch.“I’ve got to run, so I’ll meet you at home.”
Damon patted his shoulder.“Thanks, man.”
Trent waved on his way out, leaving the two alone.
“Let’s go sit on the swing,” Damon said.
He tugged her out of the house and relaxed on the swing with his arm around her. They sat silently for several minutes, enjoying the sound of birds and the slight breeze.
“This is perfect,” she said and smiled up at him.
Damon ran his finger down her cheek.“Yes, it is, because you’re here.”
Emma wanted to make a sarcastic remark, but she could tell Damon was serious and showing his emotions, which was hard for him to do.
“I couldn’t ask for a better life,” she murmured.“It’s everything I dreamed of and more.”
“Several times when I was in the military, I thought I’d never see you again, and the pain was worse than being shot.I love you so much. You’re my world.”
She couldn’t fathom a life without him, so she put it out of her mind. The important thing was that he was there, and they were together. That’s all that really mattered.
“I love you, too,” she said before she lifted her chin.“Now shut up and kiss me.”
Damon laughed.“There’s my girl.”
He bent his head and kissed her, and it felt like the most magical time in her life, and then all she felt was him.
Epilogue
Emma turned one way, then the other, in the bathroom mirror. Not bad for someone who had given birth four months before.
She’d been worried that the outfit Damon brought her would be too revealing, and she’d be self-conscious the whole time she was at the club. But, as always, he thought about her feelings and wouldn’t do anything to upset her.
The fact that it had been almost a year since they had been there made it even more unnerving for her.It helped tremendously knowing the friends she’d made would be there tonight.
She turned to find her husband leaning against the doorjamb, his arms crossed over his chest, a feral light of passion in his eyes as his gaze swept over her.
“Fuck, woman.I think you can’t get any more beautiful, and then you surprise me,” he said.
She smiled.“I’m glad.I want to keep you on your toes.”
He pulled her into his arms.“Oh, you already do that, sweetheart.I found another gray hair on my head this morning.”
She snorted.“You can’t blame me for every one of them.”
“True, now that our oldest is three and our new baby is four months old, I sometimes feel like I’m running in circles.”
Emma squeezed his cheeks.“Oh, you poor baby.”
“You’re damn right I am.”
They both laughed before he took her lips in a hard, fast kiss.
