Chapter Nine

Emma watched Damontalking to the salesman. They’d been lucky and found what he wanted at their third stop.

She had so many questions, like how could he just hand the man a check that large? They wouldn’t let him take it off the lot until his check went through their bank, but he seemed confident the money was there.Another question was, what would he do now that he’s home?

She watched him walk her way and couldn’t prevent saliva from pooling in her mouth.Everything about him was sexy, but it was the large bulge in the crotch of his jeans that drew her eyes and heated her body.

“That went well,” he said as he slid into her car.

“I’m glad you found something.”

“Me, too.How about we stop by your place and get what you need for the next few days?”

“Why?”

One of his eyebrows rose.“You really think we’ll spend a night apart?”

She stiffened.“We did last night.”

“We didn’t sleep in the same bed, but you were close enough that I was able to deal with it,” he said.

“I’ve got my own place and a job I enjoy.”She couldn’t tell him the truth that she disliked both because he’d ask why, and she couldn’t tell him the truth yet.Not until she had time to think.

The look he gave her made her think he didn’t believe her, but then she had always been a horrible liar.

“What’s the address, baby?”

She sighed and told him.Within ten minutes, they were pulling up to her building. She waited until he opened her door and pulled her out. They stood on the sidewalk while looking around the place.

“I’m pleased with the security I see so far.”He squeezed her hand.“Show me your place.”

She led him through the locked front door and over to an elevator.

“I’m on the second floor.”

“Good. You’re not at ground level,” he said.

He waited as she unlocked her door, and then they walked in.She was embarrassed by the plain furniture, carpet, and drapes. She glanced at him to see his confusion.

“I never would have pictured you living in a place like this. You love color.”

Emma shrugged.“I guess I haven’t gotten around to decorating.”

“Or you knew you wouldn’t be staying long.”
