“Second thoughts?”
Unable to respond, she shook her head. Her heart was beating too damn fast for her to catch her breath. He took her hand and led her into his master bedroom. It was a large suite with a small seating area with a couch and a plush chair when one first entered. A television was mounted on the wall above an electric fireplace. Memories of crossing these doors years ago came to the forefront. She had always been impressed with his master suite. The colors were neutral with a boldness to them with the dark woods.
They passed through a set of doors that separated theseating area from the sleeping section. The decor remained the same there. His massive bed stood out like a beacon. It was large enough to easily fit four adults. It was decorated with a dark comforter and plenty of plush pillows. It reminded her of something she’d seen in a home and garden magazine. She inhaled sharply as she stared at it. On the edge sat her bag.
We are really going to do this.
“I need to brush my teeth,” she blurted out abruptly. She released his hand and beelined it to her bag. She unzipped it and brought out her toiletry bag and a few other things she would need to freshen up along with her cream silk nightgown. She hadn’t gone with anything extremely sexy. It was pretty and elegant with spaghetti straps and stopped just below her knees.
“You remember where the bathroom is?” He motioned toward the double doors that stood across from the bed. He strode over to his walk-in closet.
“Yeah.” She went into the en suite and closed the door behind her. There was a large double vanity sink with marble countertops with oversized mirrors hanging over each sink. The room gave off luxury hotel vibes with its hidden toilet room, a big clawfoot tub, and standalone shower. Vic had great taste when it came to home decor.
She took the one sink that didn’t have any belongings around it. The other one had a few items she assumed were Vic’s. She set her things down as a weird feeling came overher. This had probably been claimed by Sydney when she’d lived here.
Well, she’s gone, and it’s just a sink, she told herself. She wasn’t going to sit here and worry about replacing a woman who’d decided she no longer wanted to be with Vic. Tachina knew she wasn’t a rebound for Vic. This was just an agreement that came with a wonderful benefit.
They were going to make a baby.
Again.
Shaking off those crazy thoughts of Sydney, she disappeared into the toilet room and answered nature’s call. She hurriedly changed out of her clothes and slipped on her nightgown, going back out to the vanity. She opened her toiletry bag and searched for her toothbrush but didn’t see it.
“Crap,” she muttered. How had she forgotten her toothbrush? Where could it be? She sighed, suddenly remembering the last trip she’d taken. She had tossed out her travel toothbrush when she’d returned home with the promise to purchase a new one.
“What’s wrong?” Vic entered the room. He sidled up to her and stood at the other sink.
“I don’t have a toothbrush. I was going to buy a new one for my travel bag and must have forgot.”
He pulled open a drawer on the vanity, took out a sealed toothbrush, and held it up.
“Want this one?”
“I don’t want to take your extra one?—”
“Tachina, it’s a toothbrush. Believe me, I have plenty.” He pushed it across the counter toward her.
She snagged it before it could hit the floor.
“Thanks.” She turned back to her bag and sought out her toothpaste.Dammit. She was out of that, too! An inventory was going to be needed of all of her toiletries when she went home. She glanced over at Vic who was currently brushing his teeth. She leaned against the counter and sighed. “Any chance you’ve got an extra toothpaste?”
He chuckled and reached for his that sat near his sink and slid it over to her. She smiled and grabbed it. She began brushing her teeth and realized that the awkwardness she thought would happen—hadn’t.
This felt…normal.
Just two people getting ready for bed.
To do the nasty.
In order to procreate!Nothing else, she reminded herself quickly. There was no need to read into anything else. She certainly didn’t need to be aware of how good Vic looked with his bare chest out, how well defined his chest was or the six-pack he sported, or how low his pajama pants rode on his hips. She tore her eyes upward and met his gaze.
Shit.
She was busted checking him out. His eyes crinkled in the corners as he chuckled. She turned back to her sink and finished brushing her teeth. Once she was done, shereached for her scarf and hairbrush. She slowly brushed her hair to wrap it around her head so she could tie it up with her scarf. She felt eyes on her and peeked over at Vic who quietly watched her.
“Why do you do that again?”
She smiled, remembering he’d asked her that all those years ago. He’d been curious about it before.
