“You should eat,” Hym said, picking choice pieces of meat and vegetables for him.

“Thank you,” Jamue said, using his other hand to eat. They stayed like that throughout dinner - with his fingers wrapped around the fabric of his alpha’s long shirt.

He was disappointed as dinner ended and he had to let go. He liked technically-not-touching him. He was the first alpha he'd ever been this close to.

It felt good.

He might not stomach an alpha's touch, but every inch of him craved it and longed to be kissed, fucked and knotted.

He gasped as his hole pulsed at that thought. He pushed to his feet. Thinking about sex always made him needy.

Jamue sighed.

“You must be tired,” Hym said.

Luci rushed around the table and took his hand before he could do anything.

“Of course, he is. He’s tired from making those delicious elixirs they call spirits.” He walked him to the door, his brother joining them.

Jamue looked over his shoulder at Hym’s disappointed look. But Luci didn’t seem to notice.

“It’s going to be nice having you here. Do you think we could get free spirits?” He continued, oblivious.

Jamue shook his head, smiling.

Luci was outrageous. But he liked him. He was free in a way he wasn’t.

They walked upstairs.

“I thought your room was in another section of the house,” Jamue said.

“It is. I wanted to talk to you. Tarymn is stifling. I can only stand him in small doses,” Luci whispered.

“He’s not,” Ludiin growled.

Luci rolled his eyes at his brother.

Jamue laughed. They had a weird relationship.

“You chose the right twin. Hym is intense, but he’s a sweetheart. Doesn’t have a calculating bone in his body, unlike someone we know. He’ll make you the perfect alpha,” he said. “I hope you’ll be good to him. He’s already smitten with you. Although he might not say it, he suffers a lot. Be careful with his heart.” The latter was spoken in a warning tone that took Jamue by surprise.

Luci came off as carefree and flighty, but right then, Jamue glimpsed a side of him he hadn’t expected.

Jamue nodded. “I’ll do my best.”

“Good,” he smiled, patting his shoulder. “Don’t forget. Free spirits could be part of doing your best too…just saying.”

“I’ll think about it,” Jamue said, walking into his room.

That had been eventful, he thought as he walked to the bed. He sat down, absentmindedly pulling out his connector from his pocket. He’d thought his father would have connected with him by now.

He pushed the anxiety that wanted to grip him down.

He’d connect with him soon enough, Jamue thought, lying down.

He must have fallen asleep because he suddenly sensed someone in the room.

His heart gave a start, but he forced himself not to react to the glowing eyes staring at him so close - yet not.
