“Thank you,” Jamue said.

He glanced at his father, wondering why he was being nice to him suddenly.

“You did well tonight. Although, I would have preferred for you to be here when Master Rosh arrived, but you didn’t know he was coming. He was so adamant about surprising you,” he rubbed his hands together. “He’s such a forgiving alpha. Even when things don't go as planned, he’s nonchalant about it. He’ll make you a good alpha.”

No, he won’t.

“Yes, father,” he said instead.

“Goodnight then,” his father said, walking out of his room.

Exhausted, Jamue walked to the bed and sat down.

Tomorrow it'd all be over, he thought. He'd never see this room again.

He hoped his father would understand.

Jamue doubted it.

But he had his own life to live, even if living meant becoming a companion omega to an alpha that confused, aroused and overwhelmed him.

I’ll be fine, Jamue said to himself.

Well, he hoped.

The next day, Jamue woke up and got ready for work. He endured breakfast with his parents. He smiled, responded at appropriate moments, and pretended to be okay with getting bonded to Master Rosh. His father talked about nothing else while his dad sat there and said nothing.

As soon as they finished eating, Jamue walked out of his childhood home intending to never come back.

He asked his driver to take him to Hym’s house where the officer from the council was already waiting.

Jamue’s stomach gave an anxious squeeze.

It was all happening so fast.

In no time, they went through a series of tests to authenticate his employment.

“You and your alpha will sign here,” the officer pointed to the slot on the e-reader.

Jamue pressed his thumb in the slot.

He felt Hym’s eyes on him. He’d been staring at him weirdly since he arrived, and he hadn’t stopped.

Jamue handed the device to him.

He looked tense, and his aggression filled the room, making him wince.

Is something wrong?

Jamue bit his bottom lip nervously.

Hym pressed his thumb in the slot and handed the device to the officer.

“Great,” the officer said, taking back the e-reader. “I'll file the documents today as Master Tarymn stipulated.”

“Thank you,” Hym walked the beta out of the office. He returned a few minutes later and stood awkwardly at the door before his eyes landed on him.
