“Shit,” his brother whispered behind him. “Please tell me that’s not his real alpha.”

“That’s not his real alpha,” Hym repeated, staring Master Rosh down. The alpha had the nerve to smile at him as if he’d won. Hym took a step towards him, but Tarymn gripped his arm.

“Stay calm, brother,” he whispered. He turned him to the couches and sat him down. Hym took a deep breath and focused on his mate.

Jamue stared down at his feet, trembling.

Fuck, baby.

Hym wanted to go to him. He clenched his hands into fists, forcing his eyes away from him.

Deltta, Mac, Maxus and Makar came out of the house. Their arrival brought the awkward silence to a stop. Everyone shoved to their feet.

"Alpha King,” Jamue’s alpha father said with a slight bow; the rest followed.

“Don’t mind me. I just wanted to make sure my friend doesn’t do anything crazy,” he said, giving him a look.

Who? Me? Psst.

Hym didn’t realize they were friends.

“I’ll get going then,” he said, taking Mac’s hand.

“Uhh…Alpha King. If I may…” the council officer picked up an e-reader and walked towards him. “I think you might be of help in this situation.”

“I thought this was a family matter.”

“It is, but it also involves the council,” the officer handed him the e-reader. “The family of the omega has requested an investigation into his recent appointment as a companion omega. They suspect fraud since the omega is promised to another alpha. I've looked at all the papers submitted concerning the omega. His appointment as a companion omega happened recently. His employment documents were submitted successfully, an interview was conducted, and he passed. The other documents were submitted by the omega’s family five years ago before your…” the officer cleared his throat.

Deltta’s nostrils flared. “Go on.”

“Yes, Alpha King. The documents were submitted, but an interview was never conducted after the set date of the bonding ceremony. Provisional bond documents were also requested by the family a month later, but the documents were never submitted. The omega’s file was archived and didn't appear in his profile. I don’t know how to handle this matter, alpha.”

“What? You didn’t file the papers?” Jamue’s omega father asked, staring at his alpha. “Tell me he’s joking.”

The alpha got to his feet. “Yes, I didn’t file the provisional bond application because of what happened between them.” He pointed at Hym and Jamue. “I’m sorry, but I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t take his right to choose the life he wanted from him.”

“And you didn’t tell me. After everything we’ve been through, you didn’t tell me.”

“Would you have listened to me? You were so set on him getting bonded with Master Rosh that you didn’t even take a minute to think about how he felt, how breaking his bond to his mate affected him. You blocked his name on the omega placement agency site, for goodness’ sake.”

“And you unblocked it. Is that why he got a job now?”

“Yes! I never thought he’d find his mate, but fate was on his side.”

“Mate? What are you talking about? I thought he was just his companion omega,” Master Rosh asked. “Is Jamue bonded?”

“He’s mine.” Hym bit out, relishing the shock on the alpha’s face.

“What?” Tarymn asked next to him. “What are you talking about?”

“Yes, what is he talking about?” Master Rosh asked, shoving to his feet.

He's my true mate, Hym wanted to shout at the top of his lungs.

But he kept silent.

Jamue’s brother got to his feet and faced Master Rosh.
