He read for a few seconds and then gasped.

“What?” Mac walked to him.

“It’s about Deltta.” Jamue turned the data reader for him to read. Mac’s eyes fell on the bold letters.

Deltta Kohle is to be reinstated as Alpha King after his brother Maxus Kohle steps down.

What? He read it again and again.

“Do you know Deltta Kohle personally?” Faria stared at them curiously.

“Ahhh…no.” Mac returned to the bot. His hands shook as he tried to seal it.

Calm down, he told himself.

Jamue handed the data reader to Faria, taking over. “Let me do it.”

Mac clasped his hands together to keep them from shaking.

Why was this affecting him so much?

“I can't believe an alpha in the council poisoned the alpha king. The alpha’s accomplice confessed. Listen to this.” Faria pointed at them excitedly. “I quote: ‘My job was to provide the Repinuj and poison his food. Master Pharyi coordinated everything. He brought the alpha king to the eatery.’ Now, we know what happened five years ago. It was all planned. Can you believe this?” Faria asked incredulously. He continued to read. Mac wished he would stop. Worse, he turned to him for input. “This is crazy, right Mac?”

“It’s crazy. We know.” Jamue stared at him with sympathetic eyes. “Stop reading it.”

“What? You don’t care.”

“I’m an omega. No one cares what I think.”

“Mac, you don’t care either?”

Feeling awkward, Mac fidgeted. “I do…but…”

He froze when it finally hit him, the reason why he reacted poorly to the news.

Mac gasped, horrified by his feelings.

He didn't want him to be reinstated as alpha king.

His reinstatement meant he could finally reclaim his old life, but Mac had no place in his old life; he would have never met him back then or even dared breathe the same air as him.

If he thought he couldn’t be with him a few days ago, now he was beyond his reach.

“This is important. If alphas in the council embezzle funds, it affects all of us.” Faria shook the reader in the air. “Do you think what happened in your commune house was a coincidence? It’s because of things like this. The council of alphas needs to be held accountable. They put you in that house and starved you."

Taking his hand, Mac tried to mollify him. “I know. The truth is out now. I’m sure they’ll deal with it as soon as everything settles.”

“I’ll make sure of that.” Faria pulled away, rushing out of the war room.

“Damn, I didn’t think he’d ever stop.” Jamue sighed. “Are you alright?”

“Yes. Why wouldn’t I be?”

Not waiting for a reply, he made his way out of the leisure room. Jamue followed him. He kept glancing at him, waiting for him to freak out.

“Please stop looking at me like that.”

“I can’t help it. I don’t know how you feel right now. You keep saying you’re fine, even though I can see you’re not.” Jamue grasped his arm and pulled him to a stop. “Are you truly fine?”
