“You don’t seem concerned. Did you know he'd go after Tarymn’s brother?”
“Not Hym specifically, but I knew he would do something rash. He has too much pride.” Deltta chewed on his bottom lip thoughtfully and then focused on his brother. “I need you to distract him while we find evidence that he poisoned me.”
“I might have figured out where it happened,” Yarr said. “I went through your schedule and pinpointed the areas the poisoning might have happened, looking at the distance from the council office and the time the Repinuj needed to work. I narrowed it down to two places. I was going to go there this afternoon and ask for footage they might have.”
“We’ll go together,” Deltta said.
“What do you want me to do?” his brother asked.
“We’re going to see Tarymn. You’ll know when we get there.” He got to his feet. “I’ll go get cleaned up. I’ll be out in a minute.”
Deltta headed to his room. He hadn’t been in there for days. Yarr brought him everything he needed. Deltta breathed out a sigh of relief when he couldn’t smell Mac’s scent anywhere. It had disappeared along with his omega.
He balled his hands into fists, getting frustrated all over again.
He wished this bullshit with Pharyi wasn’t happening right then. He needed to convince a very stubborn omega that he was his. That they needed each other regardless of what he believed. But that would have to wait…for now.
Deltta got cleaned up quickly, and they made their way to Tarymn’s house.
Tarymn was not happy. He paced in front of his desk, trying very hard to keep his cool. His twin, Hym stood to the side, unperturbed.
Damn, Deltta admired his control.
“I’m not happy about this.” Tarymn pulled his attention.
“Of course, you don’t like it. Things are not going the way you planned.”
“No. Things were going the way I planned, but you had to go and mess it up.”
“I didn’t mess anything up. I knew he'd do something drastic if I embarrassed him in front of his friends. Let’s see what he does if we push him hard enough.”
“Was this your plan all along?”.
Deltta shrugged.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I didn’t know how he would react. Now, give Maxus the evidence you have. It would be better if the embezzlement charges come from him.” Tarymn stared at Maxus contemplatively. “You can trust my brother to do a good job.”
“I know, but…”
“Trust me, Tarymn.”
Tarymn sighed. Opening a drawer, he took a data chip out and threw it at Maxus.
“What now?”
“We let the council of alphas do their job, while we look for more evidence. Hopefully, Pharyi will do something stupid again,” Deltta stated, much to Tarymn’s displeasure. Deltta got to his feet before he could say anything else. “Yarr, let’s go.”
“Deltta?” Tarymn called, but he kept walking.
He knew his plan was risky. But he hoped Pharyi would try to protect himself by going after someone else… as he did with the beta and Hym. Deltta’s body buzzed in anticipation.
Just one little mistake. That’s all they needed.
They headed to the eateries Yarr pointed out, starting with the closest one to the council offices.
“I know it’s been five years, but I hope there’s some footage left,” Yarr confessed as they walked through the door.
