Talking about Nylune was a reminder that he couldn’t be normal. He couldn’t offer an omega the best of him. That part inside him was gone – destroyed by whatever poison Pharyi fed him.
Anger swirled inside him; calling out to the beast. Sharp claws tipped his fingers, followed by a surge of aggression. He was more animal than anything. Even though he didn’t turn into his animal form, he could feel it lurking inside – ready to come out any second.
He hid this side of himself very well, only Mac got to see it, and he accepted him without reservation.
“You’re good to me. You’re perfect.” Mac’s words echoed in his mind. Deltta repeated them in his mind until the need to hear Mac's voice overwhelmed him. He picked up the connector. It was late, but he didn’t care.
“Deltta?” Mac’s voice came through the connector. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. Are you done with work?” He put a little cheer in his voice. The connector went silent. “Did you hear me?”
“Tell me what’s wrong,” he said. His soothing voice worked its way inside him. Deltta lay down. He reached for the covers, bringing them to his nose. Mac’s scent still lingered.
“You said I’m good to you,” he said.
“Yes.” Mac didn’t hesitate.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.” There was no doubt in his voice.
Deltta fell silent as he tried to absorb his words into his soul.
“Are you okay?”
“I am now. I just…I wanted to hear your voice. I know it’s silly, but…”
Fuck. He craved his attention. He wished he was there with him. He yearned to bury his cock deep inside him and forget the world.
“I understand. I… I'm glad I could help.”
“You did,” Deltta told him. “I should get some sleep.”
“Of course, I’m done with work too. I’m on my way home,” he said.
Deltta sat up and checked the time. It was late for him to be walking around.
“Alone?”
“No. Faria is with me,” Mac said.
Deltta was happy Mac wasn’t alone at this hour, that someone was there to take care of him. But jealousy burned a hole in his stomach.
Deltta swallowed the possessive feelings churning through him. “That’s good.”
“Goodnight,” he said. He paused for a beat. “If you want to hear my voice, you can…”
“I will, thank you.”
“Okay,” Mac said.
Feeling better, Deltta dropped the connector and picked up the data reader. He pulled up his schedule from five years ago. He might not return to being the alpha he once was, but he could clear his name.

Mac
“Was that your alpha?” Faria glanced at him sideways. Mac wanted to say no, but he couldn’t bring himself to say it.
