Avoiding his eyes, Jamue addressed the alpha. “Yes, but can we drop my friend off first.”

“Of course,” the alpha led the way to the nearest parking dome.

As they walked, Mac itched to pull Jamue to a stop and ask him what was going on, but the sneaky omega walked ahead, putting the alpha between them. Too soon, they arrived in the parking dome. Worse, Jamue sat with the alpha, making it impossible to talk.

Thirty minutes later, they arrived at Griean’s house. Jamue followed him out.

“What are you doing?” Mac asked in a whisper. Jamue shrugged, looking away.

“I’ll see you tomorrow morning,” he said, walking back to the pod. Mac watched them drift away. Now he knew how Jamue felt when he left to meet Deltta.

Not good.

Chapter 14

Deltta

He’d waited long enough, Deltta thought, staring at his connector. Mac left two days ago, and he missed him like crazy. The need, the longing – everything he felt wasn’t part of their arrangement, but there was nothing wrong with checking on him. Was there?

No... Yes... Maybe.

They were heat partners. He was concerned about his omega. That was reason enough, right?

Fuck it, Deltta picked up his connector.

Connection complete, he said: “Hey.”

“Ahhh…hey.”

Was that surprise in his voice?

Damn. He shouldn’t have checked on him. Making things awkward between them was the last thing he wanted. Mac was good to him.

Music came through the connector. He scowled, wondering where he was at this hour. Shouldn’t he be home, in bed like he was?

“Hold on a second,” Mac said.

Where was he?

Sucking his bottom lip into his mouth, Deltta forced himself to keep silent. An impossible feat since he was already possessive of him.

Seconds ticked away before he came back on again.

“Sorry about that. The music was too loud. I could barely hear you,” he said. His voice soothed him.

Pulling in a deep breath, Deltta sank into the mattress. He could listen to him speak all day.

“I wanted to check on you, make sure you arrived home safely,” Deltta said. And to hear your voice, he added silently.

After a tiny pause, voice gone low, Mac whispered. "Yes, I did. I should have let you know. But I didn’t have your code.”

“Now, you have it. Use it,” he commanded. Shit. He just went alpha on him. Shutting his eyes, Deltta silently groaned. Mac brought out that side of him. The alpha in him wanted to dominate and claim him as his own.

“I will.”

I miss you. Please use it, Deltta silently begged. He was getting out of control. He should end the connection already if he was going to be this needy.

Not yet.
