So what had that all been about with Knox earlier?
Why had she said those things to him when she wanted him as badly as he wanted her?
She was a fool. A silly romantic fool.
She needed to tell Knox that.
She let the water drain and grabbed a towel to wrap around herself before stepping out of the tub.
It was still early, and with any luck, Knox wouldn’t have gone to bed already.
Knox gave a brief knock on the bathroom door before he rushed inside, only to come to an abrupt halt when he saw Ellie standing on the heated tiles of the bathroom floor. She had only a towel wrapped around her, and her hair was secured precariously on top of her head.
She had never looked lovelier.
“I made a mistake?—”
“I should never have said?—”
They both started and stopped talking at once, only to both then give a self-conscious laugh and simply stare at each other.
Knox would happily continue carrying on doing that, but he appreciated she was probably getting cold after just stepping out of a hot bath. “You first,” he invited.
Ellie’s hands had a death grip on the top of the towel. “I made a mistake earlier,” she spoke huskily. “As long as we take the appropriate precautions, there’s absolutely no reason why we can’t enjoy each other for a few weeks or months, until one of us decides we’ve had enough. Now you,” she invited with an encouraging smile.
He grimaced. “Well, before you reduced our feelings for each other to a brief affair, I was going to say that if those future babies are yours and mine, then I’m all in.”
Her eyes widened. “You are?”
“I am, yes. In fact, we could start on the first one right now, if you’re agreeable.”
She moistened her lips with the tip of her tongue. “You said you didn’t want any more children…”
He nodded. “But when I actually sat and thought about it, I realized I would love to have a little girl who looks just like you.”
“Or a little boy who looks like you,” she agreed.
He grimaced. “Hopefully, he’ll have more hair. If we have a girl, hopefully, she’ll have more hair too.”
Ellie laughed, a blush coloring her cheeks when she sobered. “So, are we going to do this?”
“Have babies together?”
“Yes.”
“I’m eventually going to need you to marry me too,” he warned.
“We can talk about that later,” she agreed.
He grinned. “Just not now?”
“No.” Ellie dropped the towel to stand completely naked in front of him. “Just not now.”
Ellie lifted her chin and forced her hands to remain down at her sides to stop Knox from seeing how nervous she was.
Yes, they had already been intimate in her office, but they had both remained fully clothed throughout. Knox was only the second man to see her completely naked, and Ellie could only hope that he liked what he saw.
His pupils were blown wide, making his eyes appear all black, as he slowly looked at her from her head to her feet. “Even your toes are beautiful,” he admired huskily.
