“Not in public they’re not, I don’t like other men lookin’ at you like that.”
“Have you been hanging around my cousins for too long? You’re starting to sound like them,” she sighs.
“I’ll never joke when it comes to your safety.”
She pecks me on the lips. “I know that. I just worry about you, too.”
“I’ll be fine. Cash can call on the Hellions, or the Bracken Ridge Rebels for backup if he needs to tonight.”
She nods, looking down at her feet. “It’s just… you’ve been waiting so long to get to this point babe, it’s your time.”
“If we don’t manage to get Regi, we’ll have Forest, we’re not lettin’ him out of our sight. Sometimes setting innocent people free outweighs my need for revenge.”
“Do you think Regi will show up? Do the head honchos of these things usually do that?” she asks.
“No, not usually. I also hacked into the mainframe of the dry cleaners to get whatever information I could. They don’t keep much online, which was to be expected, and Regi is slippery,” I say. “He must be using a different name, because I can’t find shit on him, and I’m good at what I do.”
“What about Forest, could you try him instead?”
“Already did, but it’s unlikely his real name is Forest Boon. These cocksuckers are all very good at hidin’. Still, I’ve got traces on Rick’s cell, if he’s stupid enough to click one of the links I sent him, I’ll have a tracker on him.”
She frowns. “That’s something.”
“Yeah, but what’s even better is we have a location, we also have no use for Barry anymore. Once the call comes in, he’ll be expendable.”
“What will you do?” she breathes, her big eyes full of concern. Not for him, for me, and it warms my heart.
I kiss her nose, then press a peck to her lips. “Don’t you worry about that. Just know he won’t hurt anyone else ever again.”
“Where are you going?” she asks, when I don’t deepen the kiss.
“I have to go check things out, babe.”
“Will you be back?”
“Yes, I just don’t know when.” I give her a chin lift. “You have your bag?”
She nods. “I have to wait for Payden.”
All of the girls are going into lockdown at the clubhouse, starting tonight.
“How far away is she?”
“Not far.” She swallows hard.
“I’ll wait, I wanna drive you there myself.”
“Worried about me?” I know what she’s doing—trying to hold onto me for a little longer, and I get that. It’s still early afternoon, and we have time, but I’m itching to get to the thick of it.
“You’ll be safe at the clubhouse until we get back.”
“The girls are making a night of it,” she says. “Pizza and a movie marathon.”
“Doesn’t sound half bad.”
“It’s not like we have much choice, so gotta make the best of it.”
A few years ago, the clubhouse was targeted, but since then upgrades have been made including a reinforced steel gate, bullet proof glass and more cameras and detectors around the perimeter than you can poke a stick at. Cash and Deanna live at the back of the clubhouse in a separate house, so it was important after that incident that security measures were stepped up. Plus, there will be club brothers left behind to man the clubhouse, and on the gate.
