“I’m under contract.”

“Well I hope your contract is everything you want it to be and more.”

“Thank you.”

“Of course and thank y’all again for being here with us.”

“Thank you for having us,” Myome said.

“Ay, before we cut the cameras, can I say something?” I asked.

“Sure.” Hakeem nodded.

“Me and my wife good over here and I want to make it public knowledge that my track record ain’t made up of lies and jokes. I’ll really beat one of y’all mothafuckas up behind her, so don’t ever try to play with her or our marriage. We got married before God and I’m gon’ send y’all up to Him express if y’all got complaints about what the fuck He ordained. Don’t ever think I’m playing behind her. That’s it. Cut the cameras.”

“Alright then.” Eric clapped. Hakeem laughed. “Thank you for being here, Drix and Myome from Radiant Reverie.”

“Cut it,” Hakeem said and the people behind the camera started clapping.

I climbed to my feet and immediately offered Myome my hand and helped her up.

“Come on, Twin.” I nudged her toward Chandler and Allison, then dapped Eric and gave Hakeem a quick nod before the four of us headed out.

“That went better than I thought it would,” Chandler said happily.

I chuckled.

“I told you I ain’t need no fucking PR training.”

I threw an arm around Myome’s neck. She gripped my arm with both of her hands. I leaned down and kissed the top of her head.

CHAPTER 11

MYOME

Icursed and let my head fall backward while I groaned loudly.

“Fuck.”

“You’re alright.” Charm hit me on my back. “You’re alright.”

“She’s not alright,” Retta snapped. “She’s half a second behind every hit.”

“Obviously if I fell out of line and just cursed about it, I can see the damn issue.” I gestured toward the floor-to-ceiling mirror.

“Try having less of an attitude with me and more energy while running this choreo.” Retta forced a smile.

I cut my eyes at her but didn’t threaten to slap the taste out of her mouth because she was right. I needed to focus on the choreography. I couldn’t really be mad at her when I was the one messing up.

“Anyway”—Charm shot her a look—“Let’s just run it from the top.”

“I have things to do and can’t dedicate my day to trying to make sure Myome can keep up. If she can’t?—”

I cut her off. “Just go home if you want to go home. It’s not like you’re helping.”

Retta looked at the choreographer who nodded once and nudged her head toward the door.

“Yeah. You can go, Retta.”
