“Hm?” I said, still on the couch half asleep.

“You in there sleeping, Yo?” Drix asked.

“Mhm.”

“Well, wake up and come on. I’m outside.”

“M’kay.” I stretched and groaned. “I’m coming.”

“Make it quick.”

“Mhm.” I hung up the call and felt my eyes flutter shut. I didn’t even fight them. I just slipped out of consciousness. “Ahh!” I screamed and yelped as I jerked up on the couch.

My hand automatically went to my chest and I felt my heart hammering as I stared up at Drix.

“The fuck you doing?” he asked.

“How did you get in here?” I looked around my living room briefly before my eyes landed back on him.

“Man, I popped that lock,” he said nonchalantly. “Let’s go.” He nudged his head toward the entrance.

“Uh, just give me five minutes.”

He glared down at me. “So you’re in here napping and not even ready?”

“I need to brush my teeth,” I argued.

“Yeah. Alright. Go.”

I climbed to my feet still partially in a daze and quickly rushed to the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash and moisturize my face. Then, I grabbed the flowers and whiskey I’d gotten for his parents before following him to the front door. I took a look at my lock and it looked fine from the outside.

I didn’t get a lot of time to inspect it closely before heading out though. I hopped into his truck and he waited for me tosituate all of my things before pulling off. I stared out of the window the entire drive.

Drix’s parents lived in a comfortable ranch in a cute, middle class part of town. There were two cars and two trucks already parked outside.

“How many people are going to be here?” I asked.

“Just the family. So Moms, Pops, Rome, Chandler, her husband, her kids, you, and me.” Drix parked behind one of the trucks. “Why? You nervous?”

“Nope.” I glanced at him.

“Good. If you were, they’d eat you alive.”

I rolled my eyes while Drix threw the car in park.

We climbed out and headed to the front door where Drix pushed it open without knocking.

“Yo, yo, yo!” He announced our presence and slid out of the way for me to walk inside.

A huge smile took over his face and he took a knee as a little girl ran up to him.

“Indy!” He cheered as he grabbed her in a tight hug and tilted her back and forth before climbing to his feet. “Myome, this is my niece India. Indy, this is my wife, Myome.”

“Wife?” Indy repeated.

“Yep.”

Drix didn’t give her time to ask questions. He tickled her lightly and walked further inside, leading me to the kitchen where Chandler and his mother stood at the stove talking to each other.
