Chaos said something to Silas, then the big knight tugged off his shirt, and tossed it to him.Silas caught it, jerking up his chin. One moment Chaos’s enormous dove-gray wings weren’t there, the next they were, before he shot up into the sky.

I pressed back deeper into the shadows. The last thing I needed was Chaos seeing me and telling Silas he had a stalker.

Still, I peered over the edge when I was sure Chaos was gone, just in time to see Silas turn away.I flinched, unable to stop myself when I caught sight of the horrific scars on his back where his wings had been cut and torn from his flesh.

My fingers curled into fists when the urge to go to him hit me out of nowhere. It always took me by surprise.Just when I thought I was over him, I’d see him again and be proven wrong.I let my anger smother my pain.He wasn’t mine, though, and that was good with me, because I didn’t fucking want him.

He froze, the muscles in his back flexing. His head started to turn, tilting up.

Fuck. He’d sensed me, or at least something.Spinning, I ran back the way I’d come.I did not want to come face to face with Silas right now. When I was sure it was clear, I threw up a hand, opened a gateway to Hell, and stepped through.I needed to put space between me and that fucking angel before I changed my mind and buried my axe in the bastard’s gut just to watch him bleed.

I strode along the cavern toward the handmaids’ quarters. This trip with Roxy and Lothar couldn’t come at a better time.I’d been feeling restless lately, on edge, not myself, and yeah, with our ties to Roxburgh, our mutual friends and acquaintances, I saw that fucking angel around a lot more often than I wanted to.

After seeing him tonight, that raw, restlessness deepened, and that pissed me the hell off.I was not some weak simpering female who pined after a male, definitely not a cheating piece of shit like him.I was Ursula the Relentless, warrior, handmaid and personal taster for Lucifer, King of Hell.I did not fucking pine.I tortured, murdered, and kicked all kinds of ass.

If I was injured, I healed it or ignored it until it healed on its own.If someone wronged me, I sought revenge. And if someone caused me true pain…well, usually, I killed them.Unfortunately, Lucifer had forbidden me from killing Silas.

That restless feeling rose inside me again, and I shook out my arms.Yeah, some time away from my usual haunts was exactly what I needed.

This rage inside me needed to die already.I had to get that faithless motherfucker out of my head once and for all.

And after seeing him tonight, and how it’d made me feel, it was either get as far away from him as I could—or defy Lucifer and put the angel six feet under and be done with this bullshit once and for all.

Silas

I tossed my keys, and Zenon snatched them out of the air and shoved them in his pocket.

“You sure you know how to drive stick?”I said to him.

His yellow gaze slid to me.“Guess you’ll find out when you get back.”

“Don’t wreck this one.I like it.”

“That was Roc, he’s the one with the lead foot.”

“This one isn’t four-wheel drive, it’ll get stuck easier.”

“Damn,” he muttered, then pulled out his phone and started typing.

“You’re texting Roc right now, aren’t you?”

Zen smirked.“No.”

“If you destroy my new car, you’re buying the replacement.”

My last car was an SUV, and Roc, Zen, and Kryos had managed to total it.Dirt, branches, and what looked like half of Oldwood Forest had been stuck all over it.I’d seen a video on Roc’s phone, the camera had been aimed out the front window, so I had no proof who was driving or videoing, but I’d heard them all laughing their asses off.

“Deal,” Zen said.

Shaking my head, I pushed open the door to the dive bar.It was loud and hot and smelled of stale beer and sweat, and my stomach instantly knotted when I stepped over the threshold.

She was here.

Despite the crowded room being filled with humans and other beings, I’d instantly honed in on her.Ursula’s essence, for lack of a better word, was as unique as the female herself. When she was near, it was as if thick strips of velvet swirled around me, brushing over my skin, heady and luxurious. The female had imprinted on me in a way that would last an eternity.Still, I didn’t look in her direction, not yet, I wasn’t ready.

I spotted Lothar at one of the tables.Zen motioned to the bar, and I lifted my chin.Alcohol didn’t affect me, but it would give me something to do with my hands.
