“Do you have plans on Saturday night?”
“No.”
“Can we have another date night?”
“Yes. I'd love that,” I replied with a shy smile, as I nodded.
“Don’t look at me like that, beautiful,” Jax whispered. “Or else you’re going to make me hard and I have to go to work.”
“Me…” I clutched my hands to my chest in fake shock. “I’m just standing here. It’s you with the filthy propositions.”
“As long as you’re fully aware of what’s coming… and just in case you’re not clear, it’s you who’ll be coming.”
I couldn’t hold in my laugh.
Glancing at his watch, he huffed. “I have to go and I won’t see you much for the next few days as I’m on nights, but I’ll see you Saturday.”
“What time?”
“Don’t worry, I’ll leave you instructions.” Jax winked before walking past me, making sure his arm brushed against mine as he left. The brief contact causing my skin to break out into goosebumps.
I went back to the table where Vee was staring, knowingly. “Well, all I can say is I’m glad you’re not fooling around with him because the heat between you two would burn the place down … the way he looked at you, Helen. God, that was hot.”
“Vee, he’s thirty-one, I’m forty-nine.”
“And your point is? Men hook up with younger women all the time and he’s only really a decade younger than you.”
“Eighteen years.” I didn’t mention that he was the same age as my son because I really didn’t want people to be reminded of that.
My friend took my hand in hers. “There are no rules to relationships or friends with benefits or lodgers you may or may not decide to fuck. You’re single, he’s single, you’re not hurting anyone.”
“Nothing is going on,” I whispered, poking at my lunch.
Vee twisted her lips before shaking her head. “You tell yourself that, but when you’re ready to talk, I want all the details.”
Chapter 15
Jax
Me: Hey, hot stuff. I miss seeing your beautiful face around here.
Me: You work too hard.
Me: I hope you’ve eaten the lunch I left out for you.
Helen: Some of us are working. Shouldn’t you be sleeping?
Me: Can’t. The house is too quiet.
Helen: Feel free to move back to the hotel if you need more noise *winking face emoji*
Me: Ouch. You wound me.
Me: You’ll have to kiss it better when I see you.
Helen: That could be arranged.
Me: *Blushing face emoji* Get back to work and stop propositioning me. What would Thomas say?
