“And, Lea. Thanks,” Addi said before she hung up.
“Neo?”
I heard him sniff. “Speak later, Sweets.”
Chapter 25
Fern
“Fern?” Dawson’s voice sounded out from the speaker on my desk.
“Hey, how’s America? You keeping those boys in the news for all the right reasons?”
“Of course I am. I just wanted to let you know I’ve got Marshall’s visa, so he’s coming back to the UK with us.”
“Great. He’ll make a great addition to your security.”
“He will, but that’s not why I’m calling. Do you know what’s up with Charlie?”
I sighed. “Probably. I’ll speak to him.”
“Good, because he’s gone from an excitable puppy toEeyorethis week.”
I rubbed my temples. “Leave it with me.”
“Are you sure massaging the ego of rock stars is in your job description? If you let me know what’s going on, I can speak to him.”
“No, I’m good. Thanks for letting me know.”
I ended the call and typed out a message.
Me: Hey Myth Maker. You wanna chat?
Charlie: Sorry, too busy to talk.
Me: No, you’re not. You’re ignoring me.
Charlie: Not a nice feeling is it?
I tried to call him, but he sent it straight to voicemail.
Me: Why did you reject my call?
Charlie: What about ‘busy’ didn’t you get?
Me: Fine. Call me when you’re not busy. We need to talk.
Putting my phone down, I buzzed for my assistant, Felix, to get me a coffee and some lunch. It had been a hell of a week, with unfounded news stories about our bands popping up all over the place. Twice this week I’d got home in the early hours of the morning, only to be back in the office before the sun rose. I was tired, snappy and my constant messages to Charlie telling him I was too busy to talk were obviously affecting his mood.
Suddenly my phone rang, Charlie’s name flashing up on the screen.
“Hey, stranger.”
“Let’s get it over with.” His voice sounded so sad I wished he was closer.
“Want to explain?”
“Dumping me, ending whatever this is, telling me it was a mistake. That’s what this is, right?”
