“And if that happened to Norman after he met Theo, then…”

“Everyone would know he’s the son of the former Alpha and legal heir!” Wesley said excitedly.

“Right…” Jackson said. “To answer your question, Ollie, Theo and Norm thought it was their parents who sent them to Arald’s because they were gay, but I don’t think that’s the case. The question we should ask is who had a reason to send them away? The answer is the one person who stood to lose everything if it became known that Norman could read everyone’s mind. Which, of course, would prove he was the rightful Alpha.”

“Whoa…that’s crazy,” Ollie said.

“It does sound far-fetched,” Ian said, smirking.

Snorting, Jackson said, “This isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Power goes hand in hand with greed. Just look at how far Josiah went in his quest for both.”

“I know, but in Norman’s case, why wasn’t he killed before he found his mate?” asked Mac.

“Oh, hell…how could I have forgotten it?” Wesley muttered.

“Forgot what?” asked Jackson.

“The first-born son receives the Power of the Alpha when he is born, so if the first-born son didn’t die…then Norman would have it,” Wesley said.

“Which means your current Alpha needed the son of the former Alpha alive for a reason, right?” asked Jackson.

“That’s correct. Norman—if he is the son—has to be alive in order to keep the pack intact. If he had died, the Power of the Alpha would have died with him, breaking the ties that bind our pack.”

“Leaving your current Alpha with nothing,” Jackson concluded.

“That’s exactly right,” Wesley said. “As long as Norman lives, so does the pack.”

“Okay, that explains why he sent Norman to Arald’s instead of killing him, but why is he trying to get both of them back now?” asked Mac.

“Because he needs to kill Theo’s cub,” Wesley said.

“You know about the cub? How?” asked Mac.

“I found out last night when…”

“Theo’s pregnant?” asked Heather. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“I was going to, but then I didn’t want to spoil Theo’s surprise when he told you.”

“Oh, oh…this is not good…I have to see him immediately,” Heather pleaded, looking at Jackson.

“Just a moment, Heather,” Jackson said before shifting his gaze to Wesley. “Tell me, why does he have to kill Theo’s cub?”

“I don’t know why exactly, but I do know Theo’s cub is a threat to him staying in power.”

“That would likely kill Theo,” said Mac.

“Wouldn’t Norman die also?” asked Ian.

“I’m not sure,” Wesley said. “But I don’t think so…something to do with him being the true Alpha. Sorry, I can’t be more specific, but these secrets are closely guarded by the Ghost Bear Alphas and are passed down from father to son.”

“Okay,” Jackson said. “Let’s assume Norman is the rightful heir, and he continues to live if Theo dies. Then he’d still be a threat to the current Alpha if he found another mate. ”

“Right, but my guess is he’d make Norman his prisoner to prevent him from finding another,” Wesley said.

“Does that happen a lot?” asked Jackson.

“I know it can happen, but not sure how often it does,” Wesley said.
