My lip twitches, and my finger slides under her thick hair, my thumb stroking her nape. “Yeah, but that was before you knew things about me.”
“It was a much simpler time,” she says in a dreamy voice, and I laugh loudly.
Another waitress comes up to take our order, one I luckily haven’t fucked this time, and we both get steaks with pepper sauce, fries, and salad.
“See, we have so much in common,” I tease, while she simply rolls her eyes at me.
“We don’t have anything in common.”
“We’re both attractive, single, and now live in the same town,” I point out, and she shakes her head in amusement. “We both care about Cash. By the way, if that little shit gives you any more trouble, tell me. I’ll handle it myself.”
She stiffens. “I can handle myself fine. But I don’t want Cash getting into any more trouble because of me. He’s such a nice boy.”
I laugh. “I don’t think any teacher has ever called him nice.” When she turns her narrowed eyes on me, I lift my hands in surrender. “He’s a good kid, the best thing I ever did. But the club raised him and me, so he’s a little rough around the edges.”
“He’s very smart,” she continues, smiling and thanking the waitress when she brings us our beers.
“He is,” I agree, pride filling me. “Smart and headstrong.” But I don’t want to talk about my son tonight, so I change the subject. “You never told me why you moved here.”
She shrugs, but I don’t miss the flicker in her eyes. “Needed a change of scenery. My friend, Freya, lives here and told me to come. She said I could rent her small townhouse. I applied for the job, and I got it. I had a month before it started, so I traveled and then came here.”
“Where did you travel?” I ask.
“Thailand. Did a week in Koh Samui before traveling around. I loved every second of it.” She smiles widely, and my breath hitches at how beautiful she looks. She tells me all about her trip, about the floating bungalows in Khao Sok, and swimming with turtles in Koh Tao. By the time the food arrives, I’m ready to take her right back overseas to experience it all with her.
She moans as she takes the first bite of the steak, and it goes right to my cock. “You guys own this place?”
I nod, chewing thoughtfully. “We own a few different businesses. This is one of the more family-friendly ones.”
“I can imagine,” she replies dryly. “That explains how you took me into the back room of Steel.”
I smirk, remembering how fucking sexy she was. “Think about you every time I walk in there.”
“I am your son’s teacher,” she reminds me.
“For one subject. And he’s not a little kid,” I reply, putting my knife and fork down and turning to her. “You scared that everyone is going to judge you for being with a biker? Because Mr. Rogers might have gotten the hint today that you mean something to me.”
She licks her lips, and I shift on the leather seat.
“You’re not just a biker, though, are you, Chance? You’re the president. You have women throwing themselves at you, even in your family-friendly establishment. I’d be stupid to want to get involved with you,” she fires back, before popping a fry into her mouth. She mutters something that sounds like, “You have heartbreak written all over you.”
My eyes widen at her blunt honesty. “I’ve never taken a woman out on a date,” I admit, wincing at how bad it sounds. “I mean, I’ve eaten with them, with all of us there as a group, but I’ve never just asked one out.”
“The bar is so low it’s in hell.” She sighs, studying me. “Let’s enjoy our dinner. You drop me off at home. I’ll kiss you on the cheek, and then you can go back to your biker clubhouse and sleep with whoever you want. It’s better that way. You aren’t ready for what I need, and I’m sure as hell not ready for your brand of chaos.”
I take a deep breath. “You don’t know how this is going to end, Siren.”
“Yes, I believe I do,” she replies.
Reaching over and taking her hand, I look her right in the eye. “Just give me one chance. We both deserve that much, don’t you think?”
Her hazel eyes flicker before she stares down at my inked hand over her much smaller one. I know she knows exactly what I mean. There’s chemistry here, and it’s not something that comes around every day.
She tilts her head to the side, her lip twitching. I wish I could know what she’s thinking. “I don’t share.”
Ahh, so she thinks I’m going to run because of that.
I’m not going to lie, turning down pussy at the clubhouse isn’t going to be easy to give up, but the fact I haven’t been able to stop thinking about her lets me know she might be worth it.
