She looks at me sceptically for a few moments, and I can feel my heart pounding in my chest.
Somewhere along the way, this stopped being a game.

Finally, she nods slowly. “Okay, fine. But you’ve got one shot, and if you blow it, I’m done with you for good.”
I let out the breath I was holding and smile at her. “Deal.”
She shakes her head but there’s a hint of a smile playing at the corners of her mouth. “Great. Now, what can I get for you?”
I lean in a little closer to her, enjoying the feeling of her body heat. “Actually, I was hoping for a private tour of the restaurant. Maybe you could show me the kitchen or the back room?”
She gives me a look that clearly says I’m pushing my luck.
“Sure. Would your date like to come too?”
“I think she’s come enough today. Any more would just be greedy.”
“You’re something else. Not at all like the guy I met on the beach yesterday. I changed my mind. This is a horrible idea.”
“Relax, I was joking. Obviously.”
“I have to get back to work. Oh, and your date left too.”
She walks away and when I return to the table I see that she was right; my date has gone. Took the bottle of wine with her too, cheeky bitch.
I don’t massively care, because I plan on grabbing myself a date with the most alluring woman in the room. And fucking with my brother in the process.
