“I haven’t.”
“Has your wife?”
“You don’t get to say Natasha’s name.”
“I didn’t.”
Maksim grumbles under his breath. “I’ll ask her.” He’s quiet for a long moment – presumably talking to Natasha – when he comes back. “She says she hasn’t seen her since she left the ladies’ function earlier today.”
“Did Kira say where she was going?”
“All Natasha told me was that one of your men showed up and Kira looked visibly upset. That was it.”
My hand tightens on my phone. “What man?”
“Matteo. One of your friends, she said. At least that’s how your aunt described him to her.”
Fucking Matteo. He has got to be behind this. He has Kira. I feel it in my bones.
“Did Natasha see Kira leave? Or Matteo?”
“No. Is my sister all right, Enzo? Because if she isn’t…”
“She’s fine,” I snap. “I got this.” I hang up, knowing what I have to do. I have to find Matteo and kill him, no matter what. No matter if it hurts my business.
Because I’m beginning to realize that Kira means more to me than money. I felt it when I held her in my arms after she confided in me about being a virgin. I felt it when she told me Matteo tried to rape her. And I felt it when I held her last night and she didn’t leave my arms once.
There’s a passion between us. That much has always been obvious. But now there’s an intimacy there.
Almost like love.
And I know I have to get my wife back so I can see how much our relationship can grow.
Chapter Fifteen
Kira
Matteo brings me to a luxury apartment. The penthouse. Guards are everywhere in the hallway leading to the penthouse, which means I’ll have no way out of here. I’ll be stuck with Matteo forever unless Enzo can find me but that will mean putting himself in danger to save me.
And I’m starting to realize that I don’t want Enzo to be hurt.
Yes, he drives me insane. But he’s also my future and I’m finally seeing that.
Matteo makes me sit down on the couch. It takes everything inside of me to not scream at him. To not fight him. But if I fight, things might be worse for me.
“What are you going to do to me?” I ask, trying to keep my voice strong.
“I am going to keep you here as my own pet. It will drive Enzo insane. He’ll see the error of his ways. He’ll see that he can’t cut me off.”
“Is your plan to make him reinstate you then?”
“My plan is to take away his power and take it for myself.”
I suck in a breath. “You’re insane. You truly think you can have what Enzo has?”
Matteo places each of his hands on either side of me. Blocking me in. “I know I can. I already took his wife. I can take everything else.”
“Except you don’t have me. I’ll never be yours.”
