“My boss is my family. In fact, pretty much everyone at my job is like family. Which is why I would assume if anyone knows why I’m out here, it’ll be them.”

Sighing, I tossed my napkin on the table and slipped out of the booth. “Well, we’d better get moving, then.”

I needed him out of here as quickly as possible. The last thing in the world I wanted was for anyone in my family to find out that I had a stranger with me. Then again, if the whole town knew, chances were my family did also. Still, I could at least get him out of town before anyone met him.

I paid the bill, ignoring the feel of eyes watching me, and strode out the door. I barely made it fifty feet from the restaurant when I heard a splash and Rob curse behind me.

Spinning, I smirked at the red liquid dripping from his face. “Strawberry?”

Growling under his breath, he swiped a hand across his face. “Why did someone just throw a milkshake at me?”

“I told you not to badmouth anyone in town.”

Strippingmy clothes over my head, I stepped into the steaming shower, shivering as the freezing cold chilled me to the bone.

“What the fuck am I doing here?” I whispered, squeezing my eyes closed as I tried to remember anything from the previous day. Or two. Hell, I had no idea how long I’d been out here.

I nearly vomited when strawberry milkshake slid over my face from where it had been coated in my hair. Thankfully, my hair was short, which was unfortunate in the cold weather, but great while I tried to scrub the frozen drink from it.

The door swung open and I grabbed the shower curtain, making sure I was covered as I peeked out into the bathroom. The woman stood there with a sexy grin on her face and a towel in her hand, along with a pile of clothes.

“Shy?”

“What are you doing in here?”

“I’m bringing you some things so you don’t have to walk around my house naked. Though it seems silly when we apparently spent the night together.”

She was right. It was ridiculous, but I hadn’t actually seen her naked in that way, so it was a bit like showing up at a nudist show in the buff and pretending everything was totally normal.

“Thanks.” Then I thought of something. “Where did you get those?”

“My brother stayed with me for a little bit last year. He left these behind.”

I nodded, not understanding the flare of jealousy I felt deep in my gut when I thought they were from a boyfriend or booty call. Why the hell would I be jealous? I didn’t even know this woman. Why would I care if she was with another man?

Shaking my head, I yanked the curtain closed, but thought of something at the last minute. “Kelly!”

The curtain flew too far as I yanked on it a third time, only to find the woman staring at me. Was that anger I saw on her face, laced with jealousy?

“Kelly? Who’s that? Your wife?” she glared at me.

“No…” Shit, I had her name wrong? That wasn’t good. “Uh…”

“You thought my name was Kelly,” she huffed. “Unbelievable!”

“Why is that unbelievable? I don’t even know you.”

“No, but I told you my name. Is it really that difficult to remember?”

Apparently, it was. “Of course not. It was just a slip of the tongue.”

Her eyebrow shot up as she crossed her arms over her chest and smirked at me. “Okay, then what’s my name?”

Reminder to self: Don’t stick your foot in your mouth.
